Getting ready to put my boat into storage for the winter. I have a dash mount Humminbird 1198….should i take it out over the winter? rig will be in an indoor, non climate controlled unit, cover on, tarp over the cover. Thanks,Mike
I looked at my owners manual for a 598, and didnt see any kind of operating range limits. I looked at the hummingbird site, and saw an answer to a question asking if someone could use their side imaging unit for ice fishing. The answer was yes. I have to figure that if you can go out and ice fish with one of these units, storing in a cold garage would be fine.http://www.humminbird.com/FAQ.aspx?ContentId=3655
No problem leaving the electronics on during winter storage. Ive done that for years. I keep my boat in my garage, which is unheated. My boat is always ready to roll, even in the winter. Not much to storing a boat anymore. I have the lower unit oil changed and put a double dose of Marine Stabil in my gas tanks. Plus I charge the batteries about once a month.
I take the unit off of the front deck and bring it in the house for the winter but leave the unit in the console for the winter. Unheated garage in Maine. Plenty of COLD weather here. I do fold up a blanket and lay it over the console and put the boat cover on the boat. Dont know if the blanket and cover makes any difference at all. Probably not, but I do it anyway. Been doing this for years with all my prior rigs and havent had any issues.
