1manshoww,Verado engines do not use a primer bulb and you should have A1 or A2 hoses which are ethanol resistant. There should be a stamp on the hose.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on April 4th, 2011, 11:38 pm, edited 1 time in total.
So if I see A1 or A2 on the fuel line I dont need to replace them? Is Ethanol resistant is as good as it gets? Is there Ethanol proof?
A1 or A2 are as good as it gets.
Only the gray line with primer bulb is what you need to replace. I would disconnect starting battery. And the fuel line from the engine first. At least, thats what I did. They are usually clamped in some form/fashion. I replaced with new clamps. The black hoses are the top of the line from BassCat and have been compliant for a long time. It is the gray from the engine manufacturer that is of most concern…Good Luck!Last edited by jignpig on May 25th, 2011, 1:41 pm, edited 1 time in total.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I just replaced mine recently. I have a 95 P2.Easiest thing Ive done to the boat.1. I was told the larger line is the “balance line” that equilizes pressure between the tanks. (If you have only 1 tank, Im at a lose).2. I wasnt suggested to replace this line, so….I guess its ok. Dunno about that. In addition, there are lines from the tanks to the fuel selector. I asked about these and BCB said they were fine. If I remember correctly, BCB handles all hoses except from the selector to the motor. This hose in question is then provided by the motor provider, which youd think would be up to date. (This is apparently not always the case).3. When I bought the replacement kit from BCB, they provided MORE than enough fuel line. I replaced the line from the fuel tank selector to the bulb, the kit came with a new bulb, and from the bulb to the connector that attaches the front of the motor (with the spring loaded clip).BCB said that the bulb is the weakest link in these hoses systems. Something like, they cant be…or were never rated for fuel resistance. 4. Yeah, loosening the hose clamps, cutting the hose to the appropriate length and tighten back up. Thats what I did. (The bulb is directional, indicated by arrows, if I recall. Make sure this goes in the right direction.Let me know if you have questions.Im no mechanic, but I can handle the easy stuff.Ben.
How do you release the pressure and avoid spilling fuel everywhere? Just loosen the filter or??
Sorry, I dont have a stand alone filter in my bilge.Mines attached to the motor.Towels, coffee cans, etc…..I dont know.Good luck.
I was wondering the same thing Kent. I remember taking a gas bath when changing the fuel filter on VW Rabbit many many years ago. Also, were does the line between bulb/tank attach to the tank? Is that feed on top? Or on bottom meaning the tank has to be empty? I havent stuck my head in there yet to look at the connection and how much room I got to work with.
On my cougar, it just runs from the top of the tank to the middle of the transom where it meets with the other tanks line at the fuel selector. So BCB has kits for this? How much are they? Nevermind I found it:Bass Cat is now offering a fuel line replacement kit from the gas valve to your engine. This A1 low permeation grade line meets all ethanol resistant EPA guidelines. Approximately 9 feet long and comes with primer bulb and hose clamps. http://www.basscatstore.com/fuellinekit.aspx
Yes they do and a at a very reasonable price too.
replaced fuel lines on my 94PII and it was fairly simple. the lager line on my tank is a vent line that comes out in the splashwell to a vent. i didnt replace the vent line, its just fumes anyway. as far as the rest of the lines, i replaced them all, from the tank all the way to the motor along with all new clamps. i am going to try to continue to buy only non ethanol fuel, but sometimes you might not be able to help it, so i replaced them to be on the safe side. it was cheap insurance to protect the main engine. i checked my old lines and other than finding a bumble bee in the fuel filter, didnt find any deterioration.

Just loosen the filter or??Turn your fuel tank knob to OFF and slip an old towel under the lines youre gonna replace/cut to absorb any residual fuel that will leak from the line(s) after you slice them.Make sure you pluck any random rubber fuel line slivers from the new fuel line connection ends prior to attachment and clamping. After you do your fuel line replacement work, pump the bulb a few times to re-prime your fuel lines to the engine. You should be good to go…..VROOM, VROOOM, VROOOOOM!
Just recieved my new fuel line kit from BassCat. Is it neccessary to replace the line all the way to the fuel pump or just replace to where the grey line connects to the black line at the front of the cowling?
No its pretty simple on most. Only the grey line to the engine should require replacement.
Fuel line blue or red writing. If blue OK. If red…….change out.
