We suspect this to be the retractable boat buddy jacks which are no longer made. If so then the spring you have went on the ring pull stem, which allowed it to retract and keep the gear rail from twisting. You will either have to replace the jack with a Bulldog (brand), or have a stem built for yours if you want the same action jack. BCB

I got home last night and was jacking up my trailer off of the truck when a spring came out of the top of the jack. What is it and can it be replaced? If I move the trailer to the side the shaft moves and it wont go up or down. Is this the point where I go buy a bolt-on? Thanks.

The newer models are a beefier jack and that is the only resolution we would offer.

That requires welding on the Fulton two wheel, probably more trouble than its worth. The replacement is not hard otherwise. BCB

I just replaced mine on an 06 Puma trailer with the one from Bass Cat Parts. Start to finish took no more than 5 minutes. One nut to remove, take the old one off, new one on and tighten the nut. Way easier than I thought it would be.John

Thanks for the info, and I checked and my jack is actually a Fulton, so does this mean the newer 2 wheel version will bolt right up?

The fulton jack you probably have currently has a center bolt for mounting. The 2 wheel version has 4 bolts in each corner. I think that is why it is not a direct bolt on conversion. Like BCB said you could remove your current jack and u-bolt the 2 wheel version but it may not look that good. The other thought if its a must have is to have a square piece cut and painted to bolt onto where the existing one bolt version bolts up. Then mount the 4 bolt version onto that plate. I dont know if that would work or not without some extensive fab.

Here is how I did it.. The New Jack Plate Spacing is wider then the old.. You will need a plate about 3/8″ thick the same size as the new Jack attaching plate. See Adaptor Plate below. Four Holes will be drilled Holes A&B for the bolts with clearance Two Holes drilled and tapped to the bolt size. You bolt holes B to the old plate then bolt the Jack Plate through Jack through holes A and to old plate then the remaining two Jack Plate holes to the adaptor.
