Which is recommended for this setup? Is it the Rakker 24 or Rakker 26 pitch prop? If anyone know please post ASAP. I pick up my boat on Thursday. My dealer is flexible and has both props in stock. Thanks, misr12
You will want the 24P Raker. The 26P Raker will be too tall for your set-up. You might also try a 23P to 25P Tempest as well. Brian Hash
First thing, I personally dont on a Sabre but I have owned an Evinrude Ho. All I can say is that is one awsome engine. It will definitely be stronger than the regular 150. I no longer own an Evinrude and this is not a Knock. I couldnt keep mine running. It just wasnt dependable for me but others had no problems. Heres my take on your question. If you are one of those guys that just runs up and down the lake and doesnt really care about speed then get the 24 Raker. Evinrude doesnt offer a 25 but I know that motor on that light of boat with a jack plate would easily turn a 25. This is not to say that Rakers are not quality but I couldnt get what I wanted so I purchased an adapter sleeve to match the Evinrude propshaft splines so I could run a Merc. prop. The adapter fit right in the trophy insert. It made my rig come to life, especially top end. Guys with the same boats couldnt touch that set up. It also out performed rigs with 25 more horse power than I had. It might be something to think about. 00.02$ worth on the outside lookin in. Good Luck! Glynn
We will always suggest you try a 24 Raker first, though lately we have found other propellers we have preferred. Try a 26 Tempest, and a 25 Trophy also. If the 26 is too tall, to to either a 24 or 25 Tempest as the RPMs dictate. BCB
BCB, which are the latest props you your prefer over the Raker 24 pitch (standard)? I am picking up my boat. Would there be the beneficial differences of a Raker 26 over the Raker 24 for my Etech 150 HO Sabre setup? If its marginal I will stay with Raker24. Thanks! misr12
listed above.
If you can turn the 26P Raker it should be faster than the 24P but your rpms will be lower. You need to get your boat, load it with the load you will most generally run and get some numbers. Your e-tech does not require break in so you can go out and let her rip and see what she will do. I would start with the 24P Raker to get a base line and see what rpms you turn. You might also have to deal with learning to drive your new boat and that will take some time before you are comfortable before adjusting the jackplate and tuning your set-up. There are too many variables to give you a prop recomendation that will work for your set-up. Start small on pitch and if you turn too many rpms go up in pitch. Every rig and prop is different so you need to define where you are and come back to this board, post your numbers and ask what next. I am sure your dealer will exchange props for you as long as you dont damage the one you start with. Good Luck, Brian Hash
I have not run this motor / boat combo but the last two Evinrudes I had worked best with the Merc Trophy small hub 4-blades. They are terrific all around props and did a much better job at everything on the Evinrudes. Hole shot, smooth acceleration, great bite at slow speeds and super top-end were all excellent. The Rakers I tried on the 2003 rig had wierd hole shot charactoristics whereby there was some annoying blow out and they would loose grip when I would try to slowly go over big barge wakes. They did have allot of bow lift and were pretty fast on the top end. I have not tried the later model Rakers which may have been improved. I had a 2003 regular Cougar with a 225HO Ficht with a 28″ Trophy = 5800-6000+rpm and 76-80.4mph GPS. Then a 2006 Cougar FTD with a 225HO E-Tec with a 27″ Trophy = 5700-5900 rpm and 73-76.5mph GPS. Good luck! I think youll love the E-Tec.
Again try the 24 Raker first.
misr12 I am the proud owner of a 2005 Sabre 150 HP Johnson (carbed) 24 Raker no JP. Engine height 3 1/2″-3 3/4″ below pad. By myself 1/2 fuel, full livewells and my fishing gear I will run 5300 RPM, 62GPS. With 2 people and gear I drop to 58-59 GPS. I have not played with any other props. Great hole shot, mid-range and top end in my opion for this boat/motor. Enjoy the new ride and welcome to The Family! Mark Thompson
