I am in the early stages of ordering a new basscat boat. I was considering two motor choices and learned that there are emission ratings that are going to impact motors starting 2010. I am a bit unclear what the impact will be. However, at the same time I maybe over reacting with unfound fears on this issue. I need more clarity on this development. From my understanding certain areas of the country will prohibit the use of motors with 2 star ratings. I think in most or many areas of the country this should not be a problem but at the same time with the new white house administrations and their desire for GREEN energy this can turn real fast to more stricter protocols. So going forward I would like to know exactly what motors in 150-225 HP class are safe for 3 star ratings.. There are some lakes that I would like to visit like Clear lake. I do travel on some extended vacations. Last year I drove down to Falcon Lake and it was a blast. I would be really ticked getting ticketed and not be able to fish that great lake after a lengthy drive learning my motor did not meet emission standards. I know that Falcon Lake would not be impacted initially with these new standards. I am trying to illustrate a point here on the potential impact of this upcoming 2010 standard. Going forward I dont want to get caught up in semantics on the journey but the real facts to this developing emission issue. misr12
The Pro XS Mercs, ETEC HOs,
All I can say is it dont really matter how you vote seems everyone thinks this world is going to die and for some reason they are scared. Guess they dont know how it ends. But I know how it ends. I am just sick and tired of all this regulation crap. I say respect nature and be eviromentally thoughtful but I love the smell of a 2 stroke in the morning. Sorry to Hyjack your post. All of the newer engines should meet or exceed these requirements. I am not sure of that but Yamaha I have been told is the dirtiest. But All companies make 4 strokes now that claim to be far beyond the restrictions in clean power and they run fairly well but are a good bit heavier.Last edited by aceman93 on May 28th, 2009, 9:10 pm, edited 2 times in total.
No, they only prohibit sales of those engines at this time. There are very few reservoirs in the west that prohibit operation. We dont know that California is changing this to outside boats, only sales into California on new boats. There were importations of outboards by residents to CA, from other states and Canada. We would not let any of this deter you in any way. Pick your outboard, so to speak? BCB
A little bigger? Thats like saying “Butterbean is a little bigger than your 3-year-old”. And for the most impressive motor on the planet, you need to walk up to a yamaha 350 v8. Unless you are an NBA basketball player, the thing will be taller than you are. Saw one at the last boat show we had in Birmingham and I could not believe how big that thing is. It is _imposing_. But you can plan on a 4-stroke adding 100-150 pounds of “heft” for the same power rating. They are impressive with their quietness/responsiveness. But give me a 2-stroke any day. I go with John Tiger on this one. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Tom the good news is the Brand that you are used to Today, is already complient……Other brands are scrambling (supposedly) to get their 4 strokes in line, and from rumors 1 brand is possibly abandoning their DFI technology, which is a true bummer…….Evinrude will continue to simplify and work their E-TEC Technology to comply with the EPA, check the Online Emmisions tests done, its staggering how much cleaner they are than others…..The boat you are looking at Tom also Runs best with the 200 HO, and that recommendation comes right from the TOP, However like we discussed you can get the Cougar Advantage and put some power on the back to really make you run with the big boys, But comparing the Rudimentary (no pun intended) HPDI to the E-TEC is not fair, and Tom Ive told you Ive been a Yammie guy since age 4, since my 1st snowmobile…..and as you know Scott is not a Merc dealer, so that leaves, HO Power………Just kidding, we need to talk on the phone about colors, when you are not busy call me so we can color online….Im gonna do a couple Mercury Boats for 2010, Malibu silver, Silver,Red, maybe red bottom, that will be SICK,,,,,,call me Brannon MARKSQUALITYMARINE.COM Your Signature …

We hope you enjoy your cruise! They say that is a pretty loop in the Northwest.
They say 7 days on a boat is to long. I agree from past trips but I dont have any veto power on this deal. LOL! Thanks! misr12 Bass Cat Boats wrote: We hope you enjoy your cruise! They say that is a pretty loop in the Northwest.
Brannon put down the pipe. Yamaha aint going nowhere. Why the hell would they put all the time and money into a product for a series 2 release and then scrap it? I was told no VMAX carb 150s, 115, or 90 carb anymore. I bet Merc cuts its 150 efi and the other straight carb engines as well. On the 4 stroke front the Yamaha boys are currently casting aluminum to cut the weight of a 4 stroke to less than that of an HPDI with the same HP. Get ready the 4 strokes are coming to Bass Boats. Nothing wrong with the HO Tom but dont let the misinformation and smoke screen stop you from considering the Yamaha.
