Is there an estimate available for the new Classic as to total rigged weight for towing? 200hp Optimax, trailer, 3 battery system, average fuel – oil – trolling motor – graphs, etc., NO power poles. Any appreciable difference between single or dual axle trailer weights? Looking at having to get a tow vehicle and wanting to stay with something along lines of the new 6 cylinder Chevy Colorado, Honda Ridgeline if possible, if I can get a new rig?
My 99 Classic , with a single axle trailer rolls down the highway at around 2900 pounds or so . — Probably not a whole lot of difference . — I do NOT recommend the Honda for towing , as the driveline is not heavy enough . — IMHO . — Just sayin …………………
I had an 02 Classic that I believe was over 4,000# equipped similar to what I indicated above, single axle 200 hp Opti. Big difference in what you are indicating – see what Bass Cat says? I am leaning toward the 2018 Chevy Colo. as rated much higher tow capacity, also has diesel, have driven and the diesel is powerful for that size but way too much added money, at least for me.
classic + single axle should NOT be 4000 pounds. That requires some STOUT tires. My 08, with 200 pro xs, full gas tank, all tackle and such is just over 3100 on cat scales… I think the trailer sticker says 3300 MAX.I tow mine with a Toyota Tacoma with a 4.0 v6 and it pulls it easily.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
As stated above, I would not recommend a Honda ridgeline for towing. Learned that lesson the hard way. Used it to tow for about a dozen occasions on different lengths trips. When the engine let go it had 56,000 miles on it. Granted it was a 10-year-old vehicle at that point and this was an 18 ft Cat/ 175 Pro XS. No matter how they tried to build it up, Honda just cannot build a truck. Pretty much suck at that.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
We are estimating 4,000 to 4,350 on weight.
In 2011 I had the same problem. I needed something that would pull my boat and that I could travel in. I had a Dodge PU 1500 with a 350. Went with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4 with a 5.7L V8. I think it will pull anything you could want. Would put it up against most trucks. I have a Sabre FTD with a 175 Pro SX pulls like a dream. Dont skimp on getting something that will pull the boat you want. You will always want something bigger. If you want to move up to a bigger boat you will be fixed up.
Shoot. Did not notice the 2018 year. However, that being said, is the new classic that much heavier? My 08 came with master craft avenger GT tires. With a load capacity of 1620 per tire, or 3240 for the single axle trailer. When I bought the boat, I stopped to get it weighed and the weight slip said 3050, with the operator telling me that with a weight that light, the scale could be off by +/- 150. That fit in with my guesstimate which had the boat at 1250, motor at 500, 3 group 27 batteries at 150, 30 gallons of gas at 200, maybe 200 for TM, seats, tackle. boat total around 2300. Trailer 800-1000. Total 3100-3300 (hopefully closer to 3100 with original tires, I now have tires with a per tire load rating of 2150 actual trailer tire).2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Thanks for all the responses. BCB your estimate more like I thought it would be as my 02 Classic set up almost that way was better than 4,000# and the new boat alone is approx. 200# heavier than the 02 Classic I had. Nice to know as at that weight I would not consider the Honda Ridgeline but would the Chevy Colorado as it has a 7,000# tow capacity and more horsepower/torque than a lot of the mid V-8 pickups Ive had over the years. Have been towing bass boats, most in the 19 class, since the late 1970s with both the small and mid size V-8 s and never had one that didnt do a good job towing., obviously the mid size 8s were better. The diesel would be a really nice option but not sure at $3100 extra would be worth it, but does pickup roughly 5mpg both city and freeway over the 6 cylinder? When the new Classic 2018s get out on the roads maybe someone will go to the trouble to weight one as similarly equipped but my guess is BCBs is pretty close? Thanks again.
Fords 3.5 EcoBoost is a STRONG engine. More HP/TQ than the V8 and better gas mileage. Mine is rated, with tow package, to pull up to 12K pounds. I can barely tell my Sabre is back there, and still get 17+ mpg.2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
