Was wondering the difference in price and performance between these 3 motors on a Cougar

I am unsure on price but from what i gather the regular optimax gets a little less on fuel milage and is usually 3-5 mph slower than a pro xs. I run a cougar a/e with a 225 Pro XS it runs 75-78 mph depending on laod and water conditions. I am told that it would run 78-82 with a 250 pro xs. Thats the only comparrison i have. I hope it helps you out. I am sure others will chime in soon.

225 Opti – low 70s…………some a little faster 225 Pro XS – low-mid 70s…………some a little faster 250 Pro XS – high 70s……………….some a little faster Price wise approximately $1500+ between each. If youre shopping right now you might want to act quick as the price structure that Bass Cat has made through dealers is probably better in December than they will be in January-April. I would choose a Pro XS every day of the week because I believe it has better resale. Though it is your money and it is your decision. Good luck!

If you are debating then ease your mind and get the 250. I was on the bubble between the 225/250 and knew that if I got the 225 the difference would drive me nuts. The money is about the same the performance is 2nd to none (I have a 250 xs and that thing feels like it wants more than you can give it) . Resale is better as well. If you post your boat for sale in the next few years you will be glad you have the 250.

It depends on you? If your not a speed freak and intned to keep your rig for a long time, then the 225 Opti is a nice motor. The only real choice we would make on the present 20 lines are either a 225 Opti or jump to the 250 Pro XS. Some go with the 225 Pro XS, though the percentage of sales on the 225 vs. 250 are minimal. Fuel mileage wont make much difference from one to the other really. The 250 does burn more fuel, though at mid range they are all close enough to not matter. BCB
