I am starting the long process of researching my first purchase of a bass boat. I am looking at the Sabre FTD, but I am having a difficult time locating the total rig weight for the Sabre FTD. I want to make sure my vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) would tow it. **Fingers Crossed** Any help identifying the Sabre FTD rig weight is greatly appreciated.
I just picked up a sabre which is a tad bit lighter than the FTD. I have a Nissan Pathfinder off road edition with the towing package,270 HP, I can definetly feel it behind me compared to the 18ft boat I just sold, specially going up hill.It would help to have a longer wheelbase,I use to have a jeep and it did not tow very well,,,sorry,,,just being honest
I can sell the Wrangler, not a problem. One toy for another! 🙂 I appreciate the honesty. I figured it would be like that. Still wondering what the total weight is for the Sabre FTDs though…….
Per BassCats website the Sabre FTD is 1215 lbs for the boat. Figure the Sabre FTD or Sabre with tournament setup with full tank of gas with trailer around 3300-3500 lbs. It might be lower slightly lower. BassCat will get it close. Be patient. Its Memorial Day.
If we are talking about a standard two door Wrangler I would not risk it. I used to tow a much smaller boat with a CJ7 back in the day and recall the pucker power of being pushed through red lights or wondering if I was going to stop in the rain before I hit the car in front of me. I have a Sabre FTD on a DA trailer, you can opt for brakes on both axles. I have never officially weighed my rig on the trailer but its got to be all over 3500 pounds. A good rule of thumb of vehicle tow ratings is to take 70% of what they say itll do as a “safe” bet.
I dont think it is that heavy (3,500). I looked at my trailer plate 2,500 load w/3,000 including trailer for standard Sabre. I would guess more like 2,700 to 2,900 loaded up. With the brakes it stops very well as compared to my inboard ski boat 2,100 pounds hull weight-no brakes. I used to use a 2 dr cherokee rated for 3,500 to tow the inboard, it did o.k. but preferred to not tow in the rain. For short trips, I think the Wrangler would do fine if rated for 3,500. John S.

My Sabre FTD trailer reads 3500 weight capacity with 4500 gross overall weight capacity. Ive towed about every brand boat out there at one time or another, the Cat is a SOLID boat with a VERY solid trailer under it. I know the website says there is only 50 pounds hull difference on the Sabre FTD vs. the Sabre but I swear it sure feels heavier than 50 pounds when you load up all that extra storage space. Like I said I towed with a CJ7, Ive towed a 19 footer with a Xterra (carefully) it can be done! Just keep a clean pair of shorts near by.
CiK, BassCat will get it down to within 100 lbs for you tomorrow. Sleep tight and start picking your color schemes. Its a process all of us have been through (grin) if you order a boat. If not your lucky because I sure wasted enough time with picking out my color options when I ordered mine. LOL misr12
It all depends on the load, though your in the range of 3,000 to 3,500. The specifics would make things change some, as we ll as load and fuel.
