Scap Sicero and Ivan showed me my first Bass Cat in 1992, and I decided that I did not like the electronic dash for fear that there was just to much to go wrong and I bought a Ranger 482 V BassMaster Classic boat at the Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. Scap later showed me Bass Cat boats in Montgomery, Alabama, but I selected to purchase Triton boats instead. I dealy loved both my Ranger and Triton boats; however, I really do think that I missed out on something special over the past 17 years since seeing my first Bass Cat. It really did just hit me like a ton of bricks today. The very things that Phil Addison, Scap Sicero, Ivan, Mr. Pierce and others stated were all true. I doubted for all of these years, but now I finally get it. I last week took delivery of my 2009 Bass Cat Puma, and I simply could not be more impressed. I used to think the bow area was too small and I would feel uncomfortable without alot more fiberglass around me. After fishing out of my Puma, nothing could be further from the truth. The bow area feels perfect and is very comfortable to fish from. I actually feel more a part of the boat and in control of the boat with the configuration of the bow area on the Puma. I finally get it. I used to think the hole shot on the Puma was slow in comparison to my Triton and Ranger boats. Again, this was not true. The bow raises further than my old Ranger and Triton boats, and the hole shot initially felt slower, but after putting about four hours on my Mercury, the hole shot feels excellent. I think that as the Mercury engine gets broken in the hole shot improves. I finally get it. I used to think the interior of the boat and storage compartments felt small in comparison to other boats I owned. After fishing from the Puma and storing my gear, nothing could be further from the truth. The net compartment is wonderful, the smaller storage boxes allow me to better organize my gear without loosing things among a sea of Plano boxes, and the size of the boat seems perfect in that it is neither too large or too small. I finally get it. I used to think that the quality built into most of the major brands was similar. Again, I was wrong. I have looked my Bass Cat Puma over from bow to stern and boot to cap. The quality built into the boat and rigging seems superior to anything I have seen before. I finally get it. I used to think all of this customer service hype about Bass Cat was a clever marketing ploy, which it is a clever marketing ploy; however, Bass Cat seems to live up to their promises. Rick Pierce, Phil Addison, Mr. Whaley, Cliff Brown, and Ivan have shown great patience with me, have given me much guidance, and have backed up every promise or suggestion that was provided. Perhaps I may now be accused of drinking the Bass Cat Kool-aid, but I am extremely appreciative of the first class customer service that I received from everyone associated with Bass Cat. I finally get it. Most importantly, I recently faced a significant health scare, and without really telling Mr. Whaley, Mr. Brown, Ivan, or Rick Pierce about my health worries, I just put off purchasing a new Puma that I had pretty much promised I was going to buy. I did not receive pressure from any of these men to purchase the boat, though I know that they were probably wondering what in the world was going on. As my family and I worked through the health scare, I shared with Ivan and the others what was going on and received even more support. If that is not a supportive family like atmosphere, I do not know what else it could be. I finally get it. I used to think that the Bass Cat was just another fairly heavy boat like the Ranger and Triton boats that I was accustomed to. Both my Ranger and Triton boats performed very well, but my new Puma FTD delivers incredible performance from a good hole shot to excellent acceleration and top end speed. The acceleration of this boat is close to mind blowing, as is the most agile steering that I have seen from any boat that I have driven. I finally get it. I used to think that the front pole and stepping pad on the trailer was just another useless gimick that probably had little real use. Once again, I was wrong. I do not think I would wish to have a boat trailer without the trailer front pole and stepping pad. It is simply a great innovation and well worth the extra money. I finally get it. I used to think that all bass boat trailers were probably similar in quality. I was again wrong. I did not realize until I hooked my boat up to the truck the first time that the quality of the connections of the Bass Cat trailer is superior to anything I have seen before, and I have assisted alot of people with different brand boats hook them to their trucks. The safety chains for my Bass Cat are superior to anything I have seen, the connecting snaps that secure to the truck are the best that I have seen, and the channel frame trailer feels more solid than any trailer that I have pulled. I finally get it. Everything on the boat is pleasing to me. I finally got it, a 2009 Bass Cat Puma FTD. Thank you to all of you, Bass Cat staff, and especially Ivan, Rick Pierce, Phil Addison, Brannon, Cliff Brown, and the crew that built my new boat. I finally got it!!!!! Corky
Corky, Im headed off to my sons Graduation in a minute. Though I had to stop and say Thank You for finally getting it! It wont stop here and we are very pleased to have you in a Bass Cat. At Houston I stepped back and let you visit with Darrel so that he could answer your questions and you would have no pressure from us. In North Carolina we spent time together and you were as mixed up as a box of rainbow nerds candy in the dollar box. It just took you time to get the colors all sorted. We are very, very pleased to see you get that white boat. I personally reviewed the striping on this one prior to shipment and there were only a couple small wiggles in the lines. The lines are as near perfect as one can get. I almost sent you an image of it in rigging with the Hamby strapped on and all bound up. Though I really did not want to alter your anticipation or expectations. Thus I deferred. Over all we told you once we work harder to keep someone than we do to earn a customer. We hope that we hold true to this with you and we are able to see you anticipating a new BCB of whatever model again many times in the future. Maybe we will be able to look at a boat on the floor someday and comment that it looks like one of Corkys. Thank you for “finally” being a part of the “Bass Cat Family”! Glad to have ya! Now go fishin. RickLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on May 23rd, 2009, 5:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Congratulations on your sons graduation. I know that you are very proud for both of you to reach this milestone. I appreciate your kind words, and I too hope to be part of the Bass Cat family for many years to come. I am going fishing tomorrow with my wife, and my 20 year old son is going fishing with me in the new Cat on Sunday and Monday. He said that he is surprised that I bought a Bass Cat, but he said he likes the boat more than any we have owned in the past. He drove the boat Wednesday night and was quite impressed. I had to joke with him on Wednesday night that it was his last trip, as he caught more and larger bass than I caught. My son is leaving to be a United States Navy Corpsman on July 14. I am very proud of him and think he could enter no prouder service or occupation. Please keep him in your prayers, as I wish to be able to fish with him and his soon to be born son for many years in the future. I bet his first boat will be a Bass Cat. I am very proud to be a part of the Bass Cat family. Corky
CorkyIm glad you finally pulled it off and more importantly Im glad youre satisfied with your first impressions. As Rick said, now go catch some fish. That is if you can resist outrunning everything you see on the lake!
Corky, I got to view your rig while you were waiting for an engine, and it is truly one of the best looking Ive seen! Congrats, and even moreso getting thru youre health scare! Welcome to the family ! D.
Post a couple of pics when you get a chance. Enjoy your new cat, We all know you will. Congratulations.
Took the family out in the Puma today and had a wonderful time. Got on the water early and decided to leave about 1300, as all of the water ski guys and jet ski guys were conspiring to kill me, and that is not to even mention all of those poor people at the ramp that have no clue about ramp etiquette or how to load/offload a boat. We had a great time and I was actually able to outfish my son who leaves for the Navy on July 14th. He will be forced to hear about my victory today until he does leave. Anyway, the boat performed well and delivered a fantastic ride, even with three people. I hope that all have as much fun on the water today as I did prior to all of those people conspiring to kill me at around noon. It seems that I am no longer suffering from nobasscatinthegarageitis, but maybe some other symptoms are starting to creep in that I have not actually thought about before. Maybe I am starting to suffer from delusions of persecution. Nah, I think the jet ski guys and water ski guys were actually trying to kill me. Now that I have worked through that issue, I feel much better. I am going out again tomorrow. Corky
Dbasketman: Thank you so much for the kind words. I immensely appreciate that you liked the color scheme of my boat, and I really am proud of the way it turned out. I also appreciate the kind words about my little health scare. I am in a period of watchful waiting, which beats the heck out of going under the knife. I hope you have a great Memorial day weekend. Please remember those that fell in defence of our wonderful country. Corky
corky, I finally got “it” after I hooked my truck to my new puma at a gas station where Mark Mullis met me to take delivery of my new Puma .. never got out of the parking lot before the compliments started. Then the co-anglers and partners started their praise, potential buyers of other brands are re-thinking their choices. Now you will be like myself a “REP” for BCB, there is no avoiding the interest in the most awesome bass boats on the lake! Congrats on your purchase and I hope to meet your son on “warriors on the water” or another military appreciation tournament. Bruce
I propose a Kool-Aid toast to Corky….Im sure youll enjoy your new rig!
