I just got a new 522C Lowrance Finder to install in my 91 Sabre. I must have at least 6 transducers in the hull now. My current finder has been intermittent and cuts out in 4 or 5 feet of water. I ordered the 522 with a transom mount, but now I am reluctant to cut holes in my transom. I took up the rear floor drain just in front of the seat and it has an area that would work to mount the transducer for “shoot through the hull”. I have done this with a couple of transducers in the past that are mounted at the bow. They work fine for trolling and the current bow finder keeps the bottom at speed. I usually run around 3500 to 4500 rpms, 40 to 50 MPH. My question is, am I looking at the bottom of the hull when I look into the drain channel? Is there any reason that this would not be a good place to mount the transducer? Would I keep the bottom running at high speed. My boat will run 63-64 GPS, but I rarely run over 50 and most of the time 35- 40 MPH. If I wanted to mount it on the transom, where would I bring the 1 inch plug through the transom and make a neat installation? Any input on this job would be appreciated. I have mounted most of my finders myself, and generally had good luck. My best spot is in the bilge well, but it is full of pumps and transducers not and the last time I took one up, it was a real job and it took a lot of work to get it sanded back down so I could mount a new transducer. Help! Thanks, Skipjack68
