Looking at specs the p2 and p4 have the same space in the garage with swing tongue. The p4 is 5 inches longer and a little wider and has lots more storage. I am now debating on going new but which is the best boat. Which fishes the flatest and more stable. Also which is the best ride and handling? I would like to get this boat before next month. If I order now when will I see the boat and will it be a 2010 model boat and motor? What is the besst motor? 200 etec ho or merc 200?
GOOFY, We would suggest a look at the Loyalty if your a previous BCB owner. If not then the rest is a matter of your choice. The P4 is a better ride, runs well with either engine, is more stable, and has more storage. The P2 is the perfect overall set up for most. It really is a matter of your choice. BCB
You need to decide if you want ride (P4) over top end speed (P2). Difference in top end speed is 3-5 mph. The P4 is the best riding 19 class hull on the water.
That is a tough one though you are not really compatring apples to apples here. The P4 is going to be your more stable platform and yes the storage is awesome on it. As BCB stated it performs well with just about any of the 200s on the market, and will be a 66-73 mph boat, ALOT has to do with how you load the boat and fill the tanks. Ihave seen 72.9 in mine but more consistently would say 69-70 with my tourney load and half tanks. The P4 is a very balanced boat and does not achecive the bow lift of that of the P2. It does float in very shallow water for a boat of its size. If it is speed you are after the P2 will be the faster of the two and will give more bow lift, though you will lose a little bit of that cadillac feel in opt for a sports car feel. Either boat will suite whatever you needs probably are, and both will handle rough water well but the nod will go to the P4 in most rough/windy conditions. The P2 does have the raised front deck and has ample amounts of storage, and should be able to hold most of all you fishing needs. It is really up to you, for overall ride and performance, storage and fishability I would give the nod to the P4, for speed and agility I would go with the P2. Both boats are awesome and you will just need to figure which one will suit your needs the best. BCB can correct me if I am wrong the build time is probably in the 6-8 week from time the factory receives your order. Most folks who buy the P4 will own the boat for a very long time, where it seems some of the other models get turned over a little more quickly, I believe its due to the fact that generally the buyers market for the P4 are generally older and want a great performance rig that handles bumpy rides to that of a 20 foot model without giving up the stoarge. One word of advice is be prepared for the depraciation factor of a new boat over the course the first two years , there are alot of 2-3 yr old boats that you can find a great deal on.
Partner has the P4 and I had the new P2. The P4 is better ride, more room up front, more stable. The P4 fishes bigger than a 19 boat. His boat has a 200 Opti and is a 68-70mph boat loaded. The P2 has the better step up cooler and the storage is good. The P2 is fun to drive and more responsive to throttle and trim. Mine was a solid 72-73mph boat loaded. The P2 is a great package but if money is not a concern get the P4. The P2 for the money is an excellent value.
I just fished out of and drove a P2 yesterday. I was very impressed with this boat. The raised Pantera II deck was much bigger then I thought. The cooler is second to none on any boat that I have been in. Its noticeably very well designed. Kudos to BassCat. To bad they dont make this standard on all their boats. The boat I was in had a 200 HO Etec and it was very quiet, with impressive hole shot and fast. I could go on more about that motor but I do not want to digress this into something that takes away from your intital question on P2 vs. P4 because the comments would be 90% on the motors and 10% on the boats. Let me just say that there are some great choices on motors and all of them have their merits. If you really are open minded on motors take the time to read through motor specific posts for all motors. Contact the posters of these motors. Four guys to start with would be Doug McGee (Evinrude Etec), Joe Hogan and Bama96, Chester (Yamaha) and Phil Addison (Mercury). Personal Message them with your motor questions and their experiences. Weed out any comments on not what the other motors cant do. Then you will be able to start the process to make a more informed decision. One thing for sure your decision on BassCat is a wise one. Its the best OEM supported boat youll find anywhere! Good luck! misr12Last edited by misr12 on May 22nd, 2009, 1:18 pm, edited 4 times in total.
I have owned two BCB boats in the past. I had an 04 p4 you built for me years ago. What loyalty program are you talking about. Also is I build one will it be a 2010 boat and motor? I would like to get my boat in the near future. I am looking at an older 97 p2 also but it does not have swing tongue ect. I would like to get my hands on a boat as soon as I can.
Im the odd ball of the age group on the P4, becuase I fall in the younger age group (35). I was torn between both models, the dealer I bought mine had both models. I spent alot of time in each boat and you should do the same. There are things that you might like over one or the other model that will best suit your needs. I really like the cooler size on the P2, which I got around by just bringing a cooler along and use the P4s as a trash box. The rear storage is smaller on the P2 vs the P4. Which for me was a decidng factor because I typically have a partner in the boat. I am a speed freak but a couple of mph is not that big of a deal because most runs are less than 10 minutes from spot to spot. I wanted ride and fish ability over speed becuase I often fish Lake of the Ozarks which you deal with 3-4 footer rollers from cruisers running around. The speeds that are posted are right on with everyone else.
My vote would go for the P-2. I prefer the better top end speed, nimbler handling, and I personally prefer the smaller size. The P-2 and Classic are the perfect sized boats for me. The P-4 is an absolutely wonderfull fishing platform. I would say overall one of the best on the water of any make, model, size. I just prefer the overall performance of the P-2. Its just a more efficient hull all together. Not to mention that the P-2 fishes great in its own right and has an excellent storage layout. It all boils down to Your individual style. What do you want out of your boat? As far as the motor, I would choose the one that your favorite dealer sells. If its a Mercury then that is great. If its an Evinrude then that is great. If its a Yamaha then that is great. Heck, even if its a Suzuki or Honda that is great. Dealer location and service would be my deciding factor on Motor Choice. All that being said, I like the looks and snarl of the Mercs. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
