I have a 250 pro xs 2010, on a 2010 Cougar Im running a 26 fury run out great have two power poles but my whole shot is not good I was thinking about putting a tail on my motor for whole shot looking for in put thank you
There is no way I would put one of them on. You may want to look at drilling extra holes in your fury prop or downsizing to a 25 pitch during the warmer months, but I for sure wouldnt be putting that on my 250.
I agree- with aboveDude a whale tail on that boat would be like putting a bimini on……Or like listening to Barry Manilow or Wham while launching the boat “Wake me up before you go-go” would get you boofood at a ramp here in Arkansas. It would be like fishing out of a pink boat or something…C.O.D. Easy on the color reference there, boogerdoc. Wouldnt want anyone to think you were prejudice. Definitely no need for a whale tail on that rig. Would try a smaller or simply another prop, especially if this issue has recently come up. No pun.Props dont last forever.
Lol. That pink boat friggin runs like lightning on a rail.C.O.D. Jr. III
Not a problem I had just heard of someone doing that and it worked, I had planned on sending prop off to get reworked and yes I would drive a pink boat because I beleive and support the cause and Im very secure in my man hood! Thank u all for your In put
If you get the chance try a Bravo XS with additional vent holes. Huge help on holeshot and mid range acceleration. Great load carrying and handling as well.
Thank u may try that, I really like my cougar Ive always had heavy boats first light boat with good speed Ive always ran 62-65 with other boats Ive had all with mercury 250, but this dude will scoot by self and 1/3 tank not much load Ive GPS 81.2 but it is wild with full load trn two people 74-76 but still lot of dance but 65-68 runs like a dream doesnt dance at all turn right smooth turn left dance thats why Im thinking its a prop problem
I know Ill catch sh!t but, My sabre had one on it when I bought it. I ran it with and without it on there. Well it is still on there. Caught a little grief at KABCOT about it but, the nose never rises on takeoff at all and I can plane at a much slower speed. I debated Smart Tabs to take the place of the tail and even found a picture of a Jag with them on it, but everyone thinks that they are as bad as a whale tail. I do not like the looks of a whale tail one bit, but it does function well. I think the smart tabs would be even better because they might help with chine to some degree. To me it is a safety issue, i can get on plane without any issues about losing sight of what is in front of me and I can be on plane at a lower speed for when I night fish and need all the reaction time I can get.I know a different prop might help on holeshot but I do not have the money and I already have the whale tail. If someone can tell me how to achieve these characteristics without the whale tail for under $150.00 Ill do it. The $150.00 price is based on trying smart tabs.1998 sabre 150 MercLast edited by ctford on October 4th, 2013, 5:43 am, edited 1 time in total.
Wouldnt do the “whale tail” myself – but Ive heard great things about the Allison Foil or the BMan Foil. Most who run them have a much improved holeshot and low speed planning with zero issues losing speed. Either can be had for around $150 and is a lot cheaper than finding the perfect prop. Friend of mine with a bullet / 225 promax had a horrible holeshot (took forever for the bow to drop) and now with the Ally Foil, it has very little bow rise and launches. I dont have the need, but wouldnt hesitate to use one of these two if I did.
