I know Ill probably get some crazy comments, cause this is probably a crazy question to ask. But before I ask, let me say that Im into the 93-95 Pantera II models and so thats what I like. With that being said, I found one back in early spring and what I thought was a good, sound, functional boat, turned out to be a huge project. I now have it fully functional from front to back, and the tough part is next…. Glass and gelcoat work. It also had a very worn Johnson fast strike 150 on it, but seems to be very reliable so far, but by compression tests, i know shes slowly coming to the end. But, meantime, Ive still been searching for a real nice babied 93-95 era P2 to get my hands on. I found one and missed getting it. Now months later, I found another that is very nice it seems and also has a mercury 200, which is my preferred engine. Heres my question: the guy wants more than Ive EVER seen one of these for…. At 8000.00 That seems way too high, but, “Man, I want this thing” and he wont budge a inch. Im looking for something that has been cared for, that is a better starting point than what I have to bring back to pristine condition. So this ones perfect. But 8000.00 ……. For a 20 year old boat… WOWAm I crazy, or is it worth it?? Plus its 9.5 hours away, so before I did anything, Id of course do a compression test. How many of you have been here? What should I do?
Come on Guys, Nice 93 Pantera II, merc 200. 8000.00. Is this too much??
The amounts just a smidge high, so condition and equipment updates would make the decision. So do you still have you other rig?
Yes I do, and fishing regularly. Love it!! Just want something a little nicer, and as it might not catch more fish… Id like to have one that looks better. Then Im selling the current one. I would ask you this BCB, the one Im looking at has “Pro Team” decals on the boat and trailer. Was that something the owner put on it, or some kind of Special Edition in 93. Also, original owner said someone named “Ivan” set it up for him (prop and Jackplate). Does that sound like a familiar name or possibility?
All possible though hard to answer and any setup Ivan or the factory did in 93 is most likely altered, or performance has changed some. They had Regional and National Team decals till about 1994.
Who is Ivan? I heard him mention him, now you mention him. Is he the factory set-up man or something?
I believe he is the National Sales Manager?
Oh, ok
At 8k for a 20 yr old boat, he may be holding this one a while. Any major equipment updates–graphs, TM. What is the condition of the boat. I would be hard pressed to spend that amt on something of this age. I would also want to know the compression on each cylinder. Is the engine the same age as the boat? While I love my Optimax 200, I am not as fond of the Mercs from this era. My $.02
Thanks Cef for the input, thats what I wanted to hear… The pros and cons. And I have to agree with all the input on the price. Problem is: Im very partial to this era P2. Ive been looking a long time and this one is about as pristine as Ive seen other than one other, that I missed. The guy is the second owner, and I actually heard from the original owner by email. Everything is original equipment, it dont even have a Hot Foot. He claims that the engine has around 200 hours on it, and it is original Merc 200 EFI, (Kinda wondering about that one myself), but, I think Ive found what I been looking for. I have one same model and year already that has nice electronics on it and a MK maximum so I have the option to switch some things out before I sell my current one. Im fueled up and will be making the 9 hour journey to where its at 3am this morning and then take it out on the water and then do a compression check. If all looks good, its coming home with me If any know right off hand what the numbers should be on the 200, it would save me the time tracking it down.
