I just purchased a 2010 Cougar FTD and the brakes on the trailer did not work very well. I just bled the brakes and they work very good going forward but I cant back the trailer up on a very slight incline in my driveway. I did find a Backup Brake Lockout in one of the compartments. Do you need to use this in that situation??
If the big clear light on the back of the trailer is not on when in reverse it is likley your wiring it not correct and the solenoid is not releasing the brakes allowing it to back up….
When backing your reverse lights activate a solenoid valve that prevents fluid from compressing the brake pads. Therefore, when backing, if your brakes are locking up, then either the solenoid is not working or youre not getting power to the solenoid. There are several ways to check power and you should do a quick search in the archives section. Good luck.
