My tach on my 2005 cougar is off and was wondering if there was an easy fix or do i need to replace it? It reads that im running at 6-7k RPMS and my gps is at 40-50 MPH. It will go high then drop down to 3-5K when i decelerate. It may need to be tuned in or replaced, but was wondering how can i reset it before taking it in for service? Can i re calibrate the dial or is it something withing the engine not reading right? Any suggestions or has anyone had similiar issues? thanks, Gabe

Gabe Im not a mechanic but my Mercury tach did the same thing. I fixed it by working a “small switch” back and forth on the back of the tach. This switch is for different motor settings 4 cylinder vs. 6 and sometimes not making good contact. Make sure you leave it on the 6 cylinder position. It worked for me and worth your effort to give it a try. You will need a very small screwdriver to do this with. Let us know if this fixed it for you.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!

I honestly did not look at the voltage while it was occuring but I will be taking the boat out on wednesday and will check it. I will try the srew driver thing tommorow as well. thanks, gabe
