real world tow capability of toyota FJ cruiser?

Anyone towing a Puma or Cougar with a Toyota FJ Cruiser? It would could be a pretty cool tow vehicle if it were up to the task. I already put way too many miles on my F 350 and am considering a smaller vehicle for non- work related travel.Bob

It depends on equipment package, and Toyota is a bit hard to figure that out, but i think it would handle a big boat o.k.. Not as well as maybe a V8, longer wheelbase vehicle, but i believe in my experience in my sons FJ it was plenty of mass to move and haul a large trailer.

You can tow a boat behind a VW Beetle…but you sure couldnt stop it.

I have to agree with BASSCAT76 on this one. Anything can pull a boat, question is how well it will stop it …………

I have a 2007 FJ Cruiser w/ a Pro Comp 3 lift and 33 x 12.5 tires. I pull my 2010 PII. It will handle pulling the load, but it aint no F350. Stopping isnt a big issue due to the trailer brakes. If you are only pulling your rig locally I dont youll have any problems. The only thing I would bring to your attention is the short wheel base of the FJ. When you get out on the highway around 65 she can get a little squirrely. Longer wheel base, smoother ride. I definitely wouldnt use the FJ to pull long distances.Hope this helps.JBYour Signature …

I used to pull my old 96 P-2 with a Toyota 4-Runner V-6.It pulled that P-2 on a single axle trailer just fine, but there was serious pucker factor trying to stop that combo on a wet road during or after a good rain.It was also a wheezer trying to accelerate into traffic from the freeway on-ramp!

Opinion only If your just against a truck to tow your boat a Chevy Tahoe works very well at local, highway travel and stopping with a boat you are referencing. I am sure an Expedition or something like that would also do very well.
