Just returned from Falcon last night, and I have to say it was hot. Fishing was awesome, water is low, and I cant wait to get back. Fished the Saturday and had four fish in the box before 9:00. Our club had an optional weigh-in at 10:30, and the final at 3:00. I weighed 19.8 with my four fish at the morning break. We proceeded to fish the afternoon, and about 1:30 I get a call that a buddys boat is out of commission – AT THE TIGERS! I drove at 60 m.p.h for about 35 minutes to get to him and proceeded to tow him back to the COUNTY ramp. It took 2.5 hours, and yes I missed the weigh-in at 3, and catching number 5. I wouldnt have done that, but Ive been there before needing a tow, and know what its like.Sunday was slower, I caught my first fish at 7:05, and at 1:00 had only managed 4 fish again. My four went for 29.3, I had two identical 7.43s, an 8.24, and finally a 6.2. Two of the larger fish came on swim baits, and everything from Saturday and remaining two Sunday were caught on jigs. I missed two “regular” 2-3 pound fish and thought nothing of it at the time. 49 pounds is a definite personal best for me, and now I am a bonafide jig fisherman. I fished oldham football head 3/4 ounce jigs (watermelon) tipped with gold-glitter brush hog. I never had the boat in more than 20 feet of water, and despite the temps, the fish were caught pretty shallow.I didnt catch a lot of fish, in fact, I had no dinks, everything I caugh I weighed. Our club weighed 3 8#ers yesterday, big fish was 8.72. Second and third place was 41, and 40.6 respectively. The lake is low, I watched at least two boats hit the submerged bridge near the county ramp. It did rain pretty good Friday night, just cloudy-ed the water, dont know if came up any. As for cat, it ran great as always, trailer was different story. Lost a tail-light and rubber grommet, and then when I got home, it seemed the brakes were rubbing. No time to worry about that now, will check it out this week.If youre headed down there, be careful, and keep your lines tight!JP
JP,Impressive read and thats directed more to you as a person. Sacrifice your weight to go get someone in trouble gets my attention. Kudos to you and tipping my cap at ya. Not taking anything away from Falcon. Its the land of the lost for Big Bass. Hope to return someday myself. Flyswatter
Planning a trip down there now. Will be there the 26th of December through the 1st of January. I will be flying down to Laredo and some good customers and friends of mine will be picking me up. Hopefully the weather and fish will cooperate. Do not get to fish much any more but this lake and fishing trip has been on my bucket list for a very long time. Hopefully nothing gets in the way and I am able to go.Last edited by basscat247 on July 16th, 2012, 3:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Way to go Jon. If I ever had a ten fish weekend at 49# I would be hopping all over the place. But 49# with 8 fish, hell yeah!- Chaz
Thanks guys for kind words. Going to help a friend goes without question, Ive been there before with an unreliable boat – hence I bought the BCB. Not taking away from what Falcon is right now, Ive been told 49# wouldnt even have placed with some of the larger clubs. Regardless, its my pb weekend, and we go back in November, I cant wait!Basscat247 – hopefully there will be a little more water by then, or some areas will be land-locked. I think even as a puddle, that place would still be awesome.Chaz/Tom – If you ever make it back this direction, let me know, Id be happy to go there any time!JP
I just booked a trip with Tommy Law of Outlaw Guide Service for the middle or March. I have never been but I cant wait to tangle with those giants. Have any of you guys fished Falcon in March or has anyone fished with Outlaw guide service?
Havent fished with a guide there, but have fished there in March. The lake is everything you may think it is, and more. Full, 1/2 empty, it doesnt matter, monster bass lurk everywhere. Youll have the time of your life Im sure. Enjoy!JP
Thanks and I hope your right. Im taking my Dad and Im hoping he catches one over 10. Do you go there often and when is the best time to fish it in your opinion??
