Last fall I posted the question about how folks store and organize their soft plastics in the boat and I found out that theres not a common way and folks varied from cardboard boxes to rubbermaid containers to worm binders (which Im trying to get away from). Well I think Ive found whats gonna work for me. Plano has a much larger ProLatch StowAway than the 3700 series called the 7080 or XXL. Dont know if its new or not but its not on their website. Cabelas has it (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ … 586122786a) as does Academy and Sportsmans Warehouse though. Turns out 3 of these standing on end fit PERFECTLY on either side of the center ridge in the center compartment on my 04 PIV. And theres still room for some 3700 or 3731s behind them. These seem just the right size that they hold a lot yet individual color/size combinations wont get lost or overlooked. Plus I can still just throw and go without messing with too many individual boxes or having to do the flipping and zipping with a worm binder. The lid is hinged and latches securely just like all the ProLatches also. Just thought Id share this. DekeDeke
DEKE, LIKE YOU I USE THE BINDERS.HAVE WAY TOO MANY…..NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE SHOE BOX METHOD….I WOULD ALSO LIKE SOMETHING BETTER, BUT LIKE TO BE VERY ORGANIZED… IM A LITTLE O C D………. WELL MAKE THAT ALOT….ROBIN
Ive also tried a little bit of everything. Ive gone from plastic bags to gallon size ziplocs and plastic containers like you are using now. I installed one of the easy view tackle system organizers under the lid on my front storage compartment and that is where I keep my favorites. It allows me to have my favorite colored Brush hogs, Tubes, Worms at hand and in quick view. Then I put all my others in Gallon size ziplocs with labels on them in my drivers side rod box and go with that. I have eliminated alot of the problem I was having to cutting way back on what I bring. I found that I always go back to the same 3 or 4 different baits in only about 3 or 4 colors. (Brush hogs in Watermelon/red flake, Junebug, Redbug) (Tubes in Watermelon/ red flake, Black /blue flake, Black/red flake) ( plastic worms in Red Shad/green flake, black/red flake, junebug ) I do keep one binder with my Senko type baits in them. That is a must have for everyone now I believe. In my ziplocs I have Flukes, Trick worms, Beavers, and Lizards. That should cover about everything that I run into down here. Plastic bait storage is something we all battle constantly and as you said there is no sure way for everyone. We all like different things at different times and live in different parts of the country where certain methods are more popular than others. I do know that if I had a Brand new P-2 it would make it alot easier on me due to the limited storage in my 01 classic. I could keep all my excess plastics in the rear most front storage compartment and still have the 2 back compartments for my partner. I hope youve found something that works for you and you can enjoy it. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
I too struggled with how to store soft plastics and to be honest I never liked having them in a box. I settled on a small nylon duffle or gym bag. I leave the baits in their original package and separate them by type onto wire clips taken from an old metal stringer. Its easy to find what you want and you can toss the whole bag into a storage compartment.
Tideman, I think I see a pattern here. Did I leave the stove on? I think OCD may very well be a link between lots of us and BassCat boats, since we seem to be a little particular about our toys. Gotta run and check the stove…..Last edited by CaddoCat on January 23rd, 2008, 4:01 am, edited 1 time in total.http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ width=”250″ height=”80″>http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ />http://assets.justsayhi.com/badges/521/ … 57ol3i.jpg” alt=”” style=”display: none;” height=”1″ width=”1″ />
Tubes has always been my issue here in Michigan and the Bronze Back (Smallies) changing their minds on color and flake all the time plus switching lakes especially the big water from Lake St Clair one day to Lake Erie the next sometimes a big difference and when the bite is on it on. I actually go through quite a few a day, Maybe somewhat my fault but I found and believe, that a used tube gets bit more but a pain to keep on the hook/tube jig when torn up. So what I also found is if you take a new tube and roll it on you pants leg or the boat carpet to break it down they pick it up better and your bite increases.. Anyway I use these boxes they are deep and allows me to carry many different colors and a fair amount in the boat. They also work great for Beavers, Kreatures, and other bulky baits but I like them best for Tubes. http//www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servl … &x=10&y=11 Designed to hold and organize bulky fishing accessories.
