Thanks for the past responses and help. I also recently read the archieve article on chine walking. So I have alot of bad habits to break from my past boat! But that is where the seat time will come in to play. I have been very slow and taking my time to learn to “drive”. I have been over trimming in the past and now finding the sweet spot for the jackplate. I am slowly getting more comfortable at taking my Eyra above 70mph. Have been nowhere near top end yet and not even sure what that will be. My best has been 72mph at 5400rpm. I really love this boat. It is so fast to plane, manuvers great and handles rough water great. It helped to land a 7 lber today also.
My boat (08 classic) gets me to the fish just fine. But the dang thing has never helped me land a single thing. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
glen11, what prop are you running? I started wth a Fury 3 25, been running a Fury 4 26, and going to try my Fury 4 25 tomorrow for the first time. I really like the Fury 4 26 but thinking the 25 will be great for summers here near Houston.
I have a Merc 250pro and a Fury 26. I want to try a Fury 4 blade. I eventually will get one because I need a spare prop anyways. Not sure what pitch to get since I am not sure where the top end is on the setup yet. As a rule of thumb every inch pitch varies rpm by 200 rpm. what effect does going from 3 to 4 blade have on rpm?
A spare prop is just that, get anything that bolts up and gets you in. Pick up one of those used small pitch wheels that is cheap and can be tossed around without concern.
That is true BCB, But I want a Fury 4 blade. I know from past experience a 4 blade will plane the boat faster and I can run slower on plane than with a 3 blade. I will probably always run the Fury 4, once I figure out what I need and then the Fury 3 will be the backup.
I cant imagine a prop getting me on plane faster then my Fury 3 26P on my 07 Classic 200 Opti. It only takes 2 maybe 3 boat lengths now (alone full gas half full livewell). I can see where the four blade would make top end driving easier though not faster but not sure how it could improve on my hole shot.
