I just bought a PII 08 but new with a yamaha 200 HDPI and a 25P prop from Larrys Marine (5 hours away). The engine wants to act like it misses on the hole shot 2-3 times, its like it just hesitates for a split second then resumes. It starts and runs even top end with no problems. Ive treated the fuel and cleaned the plugs with no results. I put it in the shop at Futrell Marine because I dont have a BCB dealer with Yamaha locally. Gary hooked it up to the computer and said it didnt show anything and he also checkedd the fuel pressure which was good, so no fuel obstruction. He tried Yamaha but they are out till Monday. He is thinking it may be the prop…? He has tried it in their tank without reproducing results. The only time it does it is on the hole shot which he cant reproduce without taking it to the lake which he says if it is an engine problem yamaha will cover….but if its prop or something else could get expensive. Its a new boat, I dont want to end up with a bunch of expense I dont feel I should absorb….Help!!!!
It shouldnt be prop related, probably tpi setting. Pump primer bulb up good and check it, but a lag could possibly be tpi related. On the other hand,,,,,,Might also check ventilation on the prop ?
I think I would take the rig to the dealer I bought it from and ask them to call me when it is ready. I would not be working on a new boat and motor. As I understand your post it is a brand new boat and motor, even though the boat is a 08 model. How long has the motor been sitting around the dealer? Since 08? Also. dont worry. They will get it going for you. But for what it is worth, you should not have to pay any additional money to the dealer you bought the rig from IMO.
Thanks guys,Gary did adjust the TPI without putting it in the water, it didnt work. Yamaha told him to have me try trimming up before the hole shot which seemed to help but didnt all the way and as I planed out it would leave the prop to high out of the water. I only came up a few degrees and it helped so maybe something there. To Yamhas credit they did cover Gary for working on it even though it may be in the set up. I guess Ill talk to Larry, Im sure hell make it right….just didnt want to drive 10hr round trip to drop it off and another to pick it up. Frustrating little problem but still love the boat. I appreciate the ideas!!!!
It does not sound like propeller and the 25M Yamaha prop is the choice for this rig. The engine height is perhaps a little lower than you would need and that would stall it some. Though the hole shot is perhaps stalling and stuffing exhaust from low engine height. If it has done it since new, then we would have a qualified Yamaha technician look at it. The closest BCB dealership is Mount Ida, and while they are very good with Yamaha, they are not a Yamaha dealership. They might be glad to help. The next closer is perhaps Rockwall Marine and they are both Yamaha and BCB, and they are Very Good~!We hope this helps, though we sure it is not the prop. BCB
You say “new” motor but you say its running fine WOT. Yamahas HPDI break in doesnt (or didnt ) suggest running WOT for a few hours. How many hours are on this engine? Did the dealer install the 10 micron fuel filter in the bildge area? To my knowedge Yamaha never came out and said it but most of the HPDI problems my Yamaha mehanic had were solved by putting a 10 Micron filter in and changing both that and the high pressure filter at the 50 hour mark and then once a year or 100 hours. If you have a local Yamaha shop they should cover the warranty. It doesnt have to be a Cat dealer. Indeed prop plugs may be not letting it spin up as well but my Yamahas have been beast out of the hole. Hopefully someone finds the problem quick.
