I just bought my first Bass Cat, an 08 Pantera 2 that was purchased by the original owner in 09. It hadnt been used hardly at all but Im not sure how some of these things work. It doesnt have a hoot foot. When Im running across the lake the throttle handle slowly backs off. Is there any way of tightening it up so it stays down without me holding it down?Ive noticed that when I open any compartment doors that some of them the lights will come on and some wont, and some that dont come on right away might come on after Ive had them opened a while. There is a little gray device that is attached to the lids of the doors that have a wire coming out of them. is this the switch that activates the lights. Any ideas of what it could be?Which position does the live well switch need to be in in order to keep water from getting in there? Auto or empty?
Hey there, welcome to the family!!! The grey metal things are mercury switches and they activate your lights, they are grounded to the lids, more than likely your faulty lights are a ground issue, which can usually be corrected by tightening the bolt the wire is attached to. You will need a # 2 square drive bit, pliers and box wrench, I believe 7/16 or 3/8 to tighten those up. Your live well needs to be in empty position to keep the water out. Not sure on your throttle adjustment
Just read an article, the throttle assembly needs to come apart for inspection, apparently there is a tensioner in it, which is set at a certain position.
Why dont you install a hotfoot? I would never go back to a lever throttle after using a hotfoot.
The detent adjustment on hand throttles does not prevent return as this is a safety concern. The livewells are Ito to fill or empty is empty. There is much more information in the FAQ section. http://basscatowners.yuku.com/forums/67 … AQ-ArchiveThat will get you started and just pick a topic. BCB
Yep, you dont want to have the throttle stay down without using your hand. It would be like a hot foot being able to stay down without using your foot, not a good idea. You have to be able to accelerate/decelerate with a manual control of some sort, either hand or foot. And theres no need for a hot foot on a Pantera II/200, though it is nice at times. If you make very long runs, a hot foot can get tiring at times. Though running a boat at 70 mph one handed demands attention to detail manipulating the hand throttle as well.Just get out and enjoy it for a while, get used to the handling, the fishing, the fun. Lots of info on the board and the FAQ sections. And dont forget to make a long Christmas list! Lol!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
First and foremost , WELCOME to the family Monsterfishin !!!! — Now , sorry Scube , but the mercury switches do NOT ground through the lid . — All they do is complete the circuit by a small drop of liquid mercury closing the contacts when the lid is in the open position . — I have the same problem on my Classic , and all it usually takes is a slight tap on the lid when it is fully open to get the lights to come on . — The hotfoot is a personal preference thing that I prefer not to have , but to each his own . — If you want one , ( for a very modest fee ) give me a shout . — I removed it from my Classic when I re-rigged it from Merc. to Yamaha a couple of years ago and it just sits in the garage taking up space . — Cables included . — Call me @ 870-424-3387 – 8 to 4 mon.- fri. — or email me , [email protected] — Mark
Thanks guys for the info.Ive thought about the hot foot but not sure on that. Ive got a buddy who has an 05 Classic that doesnt have this problem with his hand accelerator backing off which is why I asked about mine. The problem with my compartment lights is that with the lights not coming on it means the security on each door doesnt work.BIGCATTER, how much are you wanting for the hot foot assembly?

Its a personal preference. After removing mine I havent missed it one bit. Also, my legs are much more comfortable stretched out under the console. Additionally, the hand throttle can be use like cruise control and I likey that big time on longer runs.
My lever stays right where I put it, and I like it that way. As Fly stated it is like a cruse control. I also do not go balls to the walls for any length of time and never drive faster than I can handle. Ive driven a hotfoot, I can see that they have a market, but at this point Im not in it. Hotfoot seems to be for those that need both hands on the wheel at all times. If I could make it back to the weigh in at KABCOT with a lever handle I can go without a hotfoot.
