Just purchased a 08 Cougar with 250 Opti Pro Xs. Previous owner ran Quicksilver Premium Plus in the motor I called a local shop to ask them about running DFI in it. He told me that the Premium Plus had to be completely cleaned out of the tank and not to mix the DFI oil with it al all. Has anyone heard of this? And should I continue running the Premium Plus or switch over to DFI? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is only an issue if it stored for a long period of time without usage, then it clabbers. If your running it within months no issues.

I switched mine to DFI as that is what is in the mercury manual to use. I also like the fact that they are 2 different colors so if there is a leak, it can be easily identified as to where you may have an issue

Mercury manual says you can use either. Personally I wouldnt change since the engine is “comfortable ” with PP. But its an individual choice.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

main thing is that supposedly, according to mercury, the DFI oil has a better additive package that produces less carbon, something that has been an issue in the optimax motors. Ive been running DFI oil plus the recommended 1 oz of merc quickleen (again, may the spellcheckers rot in hades – I give up on this word) per 5 gallons of gas. If you buy it in bulk it is not so bad, would not buy it at wally world. Ive been thinking about a 55 gallon drum myself as much as we have been burning. Clabber: Actually get chunky almost like string cheese in a soupy substance. It really has to sit to Clabber though. If you use it regularly then you will burn the oil out before it clabbers.
