Hey guys, I just got a new to me 2012 Puma and have a few questions about the boat. I had a few items stored in the rear boxes for about a week. Yesterday when I opened the box, both items (hat, rope) were covered in mold and the odor was really strong. Are those boxes so tight that I need to leave them open when stored? I store my boat in my shop where the temps Are between 85-90 degrees. I may start to turn on the AC a bit more and manage that temp. The other thing I notice is….I Leave the back hatch open so I Can use the battery charger. When I leave that hatch open, the led light for that back hatch will flicker. Is that suppose to happen. Now that I have the back two storage boxes open, those leds flicker as well. Is this normal? The master switch is off…..if I turn the MS on, the lights will stay solid. But Im thinking those lights should not be on with the MS off. Any help would be awesome.

On the interior lights. Yes—my 2013 does the same thing. I understand that the system is designed to turn off lights and go to the flash mode when boxes are open, so that batteries are not run down. On mold–yes the storage boxes do seal that tightly, and Ive had issues with mold on rod butts withRod wrap on them and on life jackets in the rear storage. Rear boxes are more problematic, since they touch live wells and cooler, and will “sweat” due to temp changes. I open mine up and let them air out, especially after fishing in the rain. Mike Whitten

Mike has answered you properly and any moisture hitting the interior boxes will definitely induce mold from this. The boxes are insulated between the livewell and cooler, though its a boat! So yes moisture abounds in the sump and travels through air channels in the boxes. Hypalon handles on rods are more prone to mold than cork.You should have a 25 amp breaker on the main battery that has a yellow arm to turn total boat power off. The masters for quick use and the main shut off is for storage. This should prevent the lights fom flashing. If the lights flash when the Security alarm is armed then you have a box switch remaining open or damaged which prevents the security alarm from activating.

I try not to leave anything wet in a closed up box. They are a pretty tight fit so it wont let something dry out which may cause mold. If mold has got in your carpet you may want to clean it to kill it or itll come back.

thanks guys, I now have the main breaker turned off, the flickering has stopped and my boxes are open. Cant wait for the next time I get to go out.thanks again.
