Yamaha SHO problems

In the effort of putting my new boat together, I have now had 2 different dealers tell me that the SHOs are having catastrophic failures….Anyone else hearing of this?I have had 4 SHOs now, and never had any problemsMo

Internet research shows no more trouble with the Yamahas than any other brand of outboard . — Maybe your dealer has a preference and is trying to sway your decision ?? — Your own experience with the SHO speaks volumes , IMHO . — Hoss

In the first year or so I know of some that had some problems but Yamaha worked those out, and I dont know of anyone (including the many saltwater anglers I know) having problems with theirs.

Not in our experience. They have been dependable from the power head perspective.

I have one of the very first ones, serial # less than 300. I had the early issues with fuel getting in the oil. Yamaha fixed all. Last year I received a letter that Yamaha was offering me a free block replacement. So, I took advantage of this. The people that performed the worked told me the block they pulled looked pristine. It had 135 hours on it. Mine is 7 years old last month and still runs great. Obviously with the low hours I dont get out much anymore.Britt
