I have a P3 with a 200 Optimax. What height should I run the engine at in order to run the correct rpms and get max speed out of it while retaining drivability? Prop is a 25 pitch trophy plus. Also what should my water psi be at WOT? Trying to learn from the experienced boaters on here. By the way this is my first boat. Thanks for the help.
I have the same boat/motor/prop. Factory set-up was 3.25 inch below pad which seems perfect. With a light load under absolute best conditions I can hit 71-72 gps while turning 5750 rpms with 15-18 psi. Loaded Im usually topping at about 67 gps. When you get that boat above 65 mph, itll require a little driving to keep it steady. If you feel it start to rock uncomfortably at that speed, try trimming it down to regain control before resorting to backing off the throttle. Also, it helps to run with full livewells when you are first learning to drive it.Last edited by BoBo on March 21st, 2010, 2:28 pm, edited 2 times in total.
thanks for the advice. I am still learning. Yesterday with a loaded out setup, 2 full fuel tanks, my gear and my brother-in-laws gear, and the two of us I saw 67 gps twice. So we are running about normal then. I have only been 72 gps once that was by myself with about a half tank of fuel.
These rigs vary some for several reasons. Post 2000 models were all fiberglass and there is a weight difference. Pre 200 Optimax engines had different exhaust timing and the hole shot is improved on later versions.
Are the pre 2000s lighter or heavier? Ive got a 99 P3 with 1999 200 opti and am turning a 25 Tempest 67 gps at about 5500 RPMs. Would a fury or trophy help me?1999 Pantera III 1999 200 Opti 25P Tempest Minn Kota Maxxum 70 2 Pinpoint 7520s
Im following along this thread as I just got a 2007 Pantera Classic with 200 Opti 26P four blade prop. Im assuming that the hull is the same on the classic as the P3 and other Pantera series. Just the deck layout etc. is different. Let me know if Im wrong please. Anyway I have a 2nd prop 4 blade with 27P. Previous owner said the 26 was faster so Im keeping that one on for now. The plugs are punch on the 26P, but not on the 27. Would the 27 make much difference speed/hole shot wise, does anyone think, with the vent holes punched out? Im new to engines/boats this size so all info welcome.
Totally different hulls. The Pantera Classic hull runs well with a 26 Trophy like a P2 does.
I have a 2004 PIII with a 3.0L Merc. and a 26 pitch Tempest Plus prop. I am running a manual jackplate with the prop shaft about 3-1/4 below pad. The best it has ever ran was 73.5 at 5500 RPM (WOT on this motor) I have a just enough steering torque and no problem with chine walk. My boats setup may have to be different than yours because of the different motor but this works for me. Hope this helps some.weeman
I think the early P-IIIs with all fiberglassed compartment lids were a tad lighter, maybe 10-25lbs at most, though the hulls were mostly the same throughout the P-III generation. My P-III really acccepted a 24 Fury well as far as hole shot improvement is concerned, especially during the hot, humid, summer months down here in TX.
The 1999 and those with the original construction of the Pantera hulls were heavier than the All Fiberglass models of mid 2000. The Pantera III was the last conversion to All Fiberglass we believe. Though we are not sure on that.
