Just happened to watch the Pickwick tournament again last nite, that K-Pink won this year. Awesome coverage, and if you can download that event it would be worth the watch. One of those events where K was right place and time, and nobody else understood what the fish were doing or how to capitalize on them in the backwater. I spoke to him later and asked for a crankbait lesson or two !
It fishes like Lake Guntersville this time a year in some places…..ribbitt… ribbitt…ribbitt pause ribbitt…ribbitt ….twitch … tolliet flush explosion
Bassman when is your tourney?

I am going to Pickwick on 1 Nov. for a week or so for some R&R and hopefully catch a fish or two. Any info that can be provided regarding fall patterns, Navigation issues, suggested areas to concentrate my efforts, etc. I will be staying at Grand Harbor. Also Is Bear Creek fairly easy to navigate up to Mill Creek?

Easy there Clown! Lake is fishing tough right now. Watch for schoolers in the mid to back of the creeks. Spinnerbait and square bill.

Yea its been tough. Been caching them on square bills and spinner baits back in the creeks, and theres still some out deep. Jigs and drop shot on those fish. Then of course you can always go to the grass, thats like pulling teeth to me though.
Ive seen some pics in the last two days form up there, didnt look like they had it tough… lol. Maybe they just got lucky.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Look up “Lous pickwick reports” on facebook… he usually posts every week.Heres what he posted for last week:Pickwick Lake elevation : 411.0Surface Temps : 72 degreesWater clarity : clearWell, we may not be in a full blown Fall pattern as yet, but there is still a lot of gorgeing taking place throughout the Lake. Balls of Shad are a plenty. Some are being preyed upon while others are wearing happy faces. One pattern that is still holding strong and that is the best activity continues to take place very early and very late. Especially with quality fish. During the mid day period you are going to find it tough when you are fishing with high skies. The exception will be on cloudy days, when the bite can be good throughout the day. Schoolers seems to be where you want to key in on for a more productive day. Quality fish will be in the mix here as well. Top waters will more than likely be your most productivie bait. The popper flopper remains our best offering. If they dont want the topwater, Bringing a Steel shad just underneath the ball of shad has kept us pretty busy. I know that those two baits sound like a broken record here lately, but if it aint broke, you dont fix it. The majority of activity continues to be in the back of creeks in 3 to 6 ft. of water.Spending yesterday on the water did not give me anything new to report on, in fact it was a little slower than the 3 previous trips. We do have some cooler weather forecasted for the up coming week. This is definately what we need to get our surface temps down in the 60s. This will encourage more quality fish to join in on the feed. Its hard to forecast fishing, when Mother Nature has everything to do with it. We all depend on her. Having said that, there is not a day that goes by, that some where fish can be found eating. Its just that they are fewer in numbers. We have plenty of good Sticks out there that someone will figure it out. Its just a matter of what I call reading the day. The more you know about fish behavior, learned by time spent on the water the easier it is for you to crack the code. The Smallmouth bite has been good on certain days. You may find some mixed in with the schoolers. Other than that your best chance for them will be a little bit deeper on points during good current flows and after dark thirty.Good luck to all tournament Anglers fishing this weekend. Someone will be bringing a good sack to the scales…. Fish safely…..
