Gill BCB rainsuit review

All the Gill rainwear is top notch stuff. Ive used every piece that BCB sells and like it all.The Inshore Lite Jacket is great as a 3 season, lightweight rain jacket. Very roomy hood. Fabric is fairly breathable. Unless you need a full out, nasty weather, blowing sideways, cats and dogs rain, rain jacket, the Inshore will be work just fine.The Coastal Bibs are some of the best for the money. Easy on, easy off. Definitely waterproof and more breathable than the Inshore. Same for the Coastal Jacket. Hard to beat for the $s.The KB1 Jacket and Bibs are the most breathable/ waterproof available from Gill. I would put it up against any fabric that Gore puts out and I have a sure nuff closet full of Gore-Tex jackets that cost way more than the KB1. Guess whats been in my boat since I got it? The Gill. Its for those cats and dogs days.

The KB1 wont be any hotter than any other piece. Actually seems to be cooler due to the light grey color. One thing to keep in mind with ALL “waterproof/ breathable” fabric is the fact that they are designed to work on the chimney effect. In essence you are pushing warm, moist air next to your body through the pores in the waterproof/ breathable membrane out to cooler, drier air, just like the heat from a fire would go up the chimney. If the conditions outside the membrane are similar to those inside, not as much moisture gets pushed out. Materials with a higher degree of breathe-ability will still function, just not as well. More expensive materials usually mean higher breathable. Sorry for the long winded response, but this is the reason many people buy expensive w/b rainwear and swear that it “leaks”. Whats happening is they arent able to push the warm, moist air inside the jacket out into warm, moist air. Its a science thing.
