Just got my new p2 and love it, wondering if any of you guys have the same rig and could help me with my set up?
I highly recommend getting through the break-in period before you go tweaking . — The 25 pitch prop should be about right for that combination in colder weather , and a 23 for the warmer months . — Enjoy the new ride !! — Hoss
For sure the break in is crucial, I was wonder what everyone else had the JACKPLATE set at and what I could expect to see out of it in the near future. Speed hole shot fuel economy ect.
FUEL ECONOMY ?!?!?!?!!?? — WE DONT NEED NO STINKING FUEL ECONOMY !!!!!!!!!! ( LOL ) — In any case , fuel economy will be mostly irrelevant , since it will be somewhere around 4 miles per gallon . — Jackplate height will be determined by your load and performance requirements . — All boats / motors are different , even if from the same manufacturer . — This is where you get to ” play ” with YOUR boat . — Good starting point is where the jackplate was set at the factory , which is probably 1/2 inch above flush on top of the slides . — You go down if you want better holeshot , and up for more speed . — Make the adjustments in 1/4 inch increments though , as it doesnt take much movement to make a difference . — Too low and you kill the top speed / too high it gets hard to turn left — Once you get through break-in you can play to your hearts desire . — Props are always another enigmatic area of tuning , as no 2 of them are the same either . — Just have fun , whatever you do . — Not knowing your driving skills , or previous Basscat driving experience , I will advise that you take it slow in getting it to go as fast as it will , as Kittys tend to walk a little when theyre skinned back and scalding down the lake . — It takes some seat time to get a handle on just how to make her go as fast as she will , which should be around 70 – 75 M.P.H. or so . — Be careful and enjoy . — Hoss
Thanks, Ive owned a nitro for the last 12 years, just a 17fter not as fast and handled a lot different. I am getting my seat time in now with the break in. I am at the point where I can run any speed now except wide open throttle in limited to under 5 mins. Got it to 71 and the chine walk was uncontrollably, havent learned the boat enough to control it well yet. Thought about raising the plate up and see if that helps?
I am a p2 owner myself. I highly suggest going the FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS section of this forum. READ THE ARTICLEAR ON CHIME WALKING. Very good read. Very useful!. Good luck! Go slow!2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Thanks thats a good read, what set up are you running? Has it help with the chine?
I run a atlas plate. I have been a cat owner for many yrs. When I first got my 13 model it did chime. As the article reads. Your goal is too prevent the chime from happening thru the wheel. As a previous post stated .SEAT TIME is your best friend. I understand you are “anxious” . I will suggest take your time and get the “feel” of your new boat. I run the pro xs. Ive had mine a couple yrs know and I am still very cautious when and if I stretch my kittys wings out. Water conditions have to be right. Maybe some of the sho guys will cue in on plate height. Untill you get the feel of your rig I would think where Bcb set the plate should be close until you learn to control the chime. Rember trim is your friend. Dont snatched the throttle.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
True I still need seat time, Ill get the hang of it sooner or later. So far I love the boat, been looking for month read review after review,Basscat, ranger ,triton ect. Looked at lots of boats, the Basscat definitely stood out as the top contender in my eyes! Glad I made this choice. I look forward to years of fishing out of this rig. I know Ill get it tuned in where I want it in due time. As with the sho that things a beast, out the hole mid range and top end couldnt be happier with this motor. I have always been a Mercury man I just hope this Yamaha holds up like my old merc did. I guess only time will tell.
Unlike what your friends will tell you, DO NOT raise the engine to control chine walk. Simply take your time trimming and let it develop in bumps, subtle bumps of the trim. Engine height and set up is all about steering torque and if there is no torque then you can raise it slightly in 1/4″ sections till you get torque loaded up, then drop it 1/4″ for varying conditions.
