Should I be concerned about this?

So I noticed this the other day when I was strapping the boat down, this is a 13 margay. It seems that between the hull and the rub rail by the transom they used some form of black silicone sealer. The sealer is now hard and cracking and there is a visible gap there. I will certainly put some silicone there to seal it up but should I be worried about water intrusion given the location of this?http://i.imgur.com/SkHjrw5.jpg

I typically only see my dealer once a year for winterization as he is 2 hours a way. I am a month away from shutting down for the season anyway I guess I was just wondering if BCB could shed some light. I can close up this hole no problem with some silicone, I am just wondering if that is the right move. I am also curious what type of sealant is used in this spot and why it is cracking so soon. I am fishing lozbcot maybe I will have someone there take a glance at it before I seal it.

There is no sealant in that area which is hard. The area you see is a urethane compound and windshield urethane in a tube could be used to reseal that area. Odd are from what we can tell, and the pictures are too close up, that area may never have been smoothed over like we would prefer. BCB

So just seal that gap with some silicone and call it? The gap there is small about the size of your pinky finger. I will just watch the other parts and make sure more of it does not crack off.thanks

I will just watch the other parts and make sure more of it does not crack off.thanksGrapelaI found a similar issue on my 2012 Eyra a while back and I personally asked Rick Pierce about it while he was at the Bassmaster Classic Expo in Birmingham a couple years ago. On another Basscat on display, I showed him exactly where it was and my concern. In typical RP fashion, he got a 3 ring binder out with build photos and showed me why it is this way and may appear to be not “perfect”… bottom line, he said not to worry, but if it would make me feel better I could put silicone there. That was good enough for me and I have stopped worrying about it.

I used the black gasket maker at orielly and filled her right up..let it dry and forget about it
