Swap from MK to MG

Currently have a Fortrex 101 that needs to go for some servicing. Ive got a tournament in 3 days and Ive found a very good deal on a tour edition 109 that I want to install while my fortrex is being fixed. Looks like the holes dont line up as the MG are spaced at 4 inches and MK at 3 inches. Any suggestions so Im not drilling holes in the boat? Thanks in advance…

If you have a metal shop near you, get an aluminum plate (about 3/4 ) and mount it to boat and then have it drilled and tapped for both MG and MK. Make sure to use SS Bolts. Use existing hardware with the reinforcement blocks underneath to attach to boat. Makes it ez to change a trolling motor!

If I use a plate, itll have to be raised off the boat a bit to get a nut beneath it when installing the MG. Thats not a problem, I could just use the existing rubber washers that were beneath the fortrex. I dont have a machine shop close, but I have a plastic MK quick release bracket. Its for the Maxum so Ill have to drill it but think it may work.

Thought I had read on here somewhere where they were the same hole pattern. If not transfer the mk hole pattern to the mg mounting bracket by making a card board tempalate. And drill the mg to fit the existing holes.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

Newer BCB mounted trolling motors use the same hole pattern and we remove the side plate on the MinnKota, which covers the second set of holes matching MotorGuide patterns. One mounted by others, or mounted years before, are not on that same universal pattern because installers do (did) not understand the need for using that set initially. They were more concerned with simple installation than universal patterns.With the new Ultrex coming out soon there will be a plethora of installs with Swiss cheese decks because the riggers and owners wont be aware of the second bolt pattern hidden behind the side plates. This is reverse of your situation.

You got that right!! Got my motor fixed up so just bolting it back on…thanks for all the responses though. Time to fish!!!
