Mojo and Clownshoes- Little Help Needed

Guys -One of my buddies, Alan Perkins, has taken over Fish N Stuff in Sherwood. The idea is to get the historic fisheries information on the Arkansas River that led to the Corps undertaking the habitat improvement/dike cuts that happened several years ago. I recall some discussion of the issue here. Can you point me in the right direction to start assembling the historic information. The goal is to understand the issues and see where we might have room to make a push for more improvements on the river.Thanks for your help.John

John, the one that goes by Clownshoes is the one that has this info locked up between his ears. I would even agree to buy lunch for the two of you just to listen to this again. Clownshoes got so far over my head so fast that I might learn something by hearing it again.Jeff

Jeff -Doc will do that to you. This is just one of the things stuck in his head. Lunch would be great. Can I assume that yall would be willing to be included in a push for better river habitat?Once we here from the others, we can set up lunch.John

From the AGFC side, I would contact Jeff Quinn. He is our river biologist and was involved with that project (I believe). His email is [email protected]. I would love to see renewed interest in the Arkansas River. It is a special fishery for many different fish species. Holler at me, if I can assist in anyway. My email is [email protected]

Highlights-#1- USACE had plans for 12 dredging project which is now long since dead. Needed mitigation to get this done. USACE does nothing out of goodness of their heart unless you are US Senator or actually in the building. They have no budget for such currently. Best hope for us is a vibrant US economy but doubt thats ever gonna happen either in terms of getting 12 project restarted#2- Two ways to impact fishing in Arkansas IMO- A) Have a good political eye and figure out who next governor is. Donate/route/smuggle about $100K or so to his/her PAC. Then you gotta have a couple of fundraisers at your house so you better have a house thats worthy. Get on AGFC commission. Sue USACE for habitat loss on AR River. Ben Battens work will give you all the evidence you need. USACE has to mitigate 100s of millions in destruction. B) Get involved with ABA. Come to meetings. Participate in projects. Raise money. ABA is 501c3 officially now. Have already gotten some things done with AGFF as well and more planned. Limited Dredging is upper end of what can be done at this level I think?#3- Habitat projects on AR river other than cutting jetties or dredging is a waste of time/money largely. Water gets high– your crap is gone. Stocking is another bag of worms and thanks to Texas everyone thinks its key. What a joke- they ought to own up but wont.#4- Want good fishing in Arkansas? Emminent domain about 20,000 acres in delta a make a lake. Epic.Overall? For me ABA is best path I know of and can afford. Pick off issues one by one. Eat what you can chew.C.O.D. Jr. III

Call me about the highlights when you have free time, which I understand is limited. There is support from Commissioners and there are ways to push the Corps and ABA can serve as a face. Alan and I are willing to put in some effort to hold down costs.How do I get Battens reports?John

But I need him to call me. I thought he listed to Foo Fighters? God forbid I need brain surgery I need the guy on my side. Plus he hooked me up when I buried a hook in my hand with a hand surgeon that I will have to tell you about at GAF.
