Low voltage

Has anyone had the “low voltage” warning pop up on your Helix screen? Last two times out, this has been happening. Smartcraft guage reads 12.0 volts, then when I start it up and make a run, it will quickly get back to 14+ volts. Could it be the battery so soon? 2016. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most likely your “low volatage” alarm setting on your Helix is too high…I think I have mine around 10.5v just to be on the safe side. I would much rather have a LV alarm pop up on my screen late in the day as I turn my motor over and I know it is gettign low than it alarm and it me so low that will not cant crank anyways.

Do you have your voltage displayed on you units. This will tell your voltage at the units. I got mine displayed after being told I have a voltage issue. Even though the units never seem to show it!.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

Thanks, I will check on that. Do your volts vary that much on your smartcraft gauge?

My nexlynk gauge always shows .5 volts or so higher than my graphs

Right, but my Smartcraft gauge will read 12.0 volts, then when I start it up and make a run, it will quickly get back to 14+ volts. Is this normal?

The 14v is what your alternator is putting out, not the voltage of your battery. If you shut down, you will see the voltage settle right back down to about where it was. Of course, a really long run should charge the battery back up some, and you would see a corresponding increase in voltage.

If it is only reading 12.0 volts, you have a problem and need to look at. Check the voltage on the battery (not running) with a reliable voltmeter. For a charged battery, you should be seeing around 12.75V. 12.0 indicates a very low battery, so Im guessing you have a substantial voltage drop. Also, it should be charging around 14.5, so again, if youre seeing 14.0, that would indicate a voltage drop through the wiring.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

Im having the exact same issue on my Onix dropping to 10.4 v during cranking that johnstrollingmotor suggested a similar statement to my post on BBC. Im going to remove the solder connections and crimp them and see if that helps. Have you direct wired your helix to the battery rather than splicing into the power running to your console? Make sure your connections are tight and corrosion free on your battery as well

After being told I had low voltage by lowerance. Thought I would do a little probing myself. Battery 12.8 console 12.6 bow 12.4. Fished 7hrs the other night never seen nothing lowe than 12.1 at the bow. Factory bcb wiring. 10 gauge. Not hooked straight to battery. Untill I have trouble believe I leave it this way.
