Finally couldnt take the gas mileage and all the little repairs that were coming up on my 2001 Yukkon XL with 174K miles. I ordered a 2015 Ford F150 4X2 with the crew cab, short bed, and the 3.5L twin turbo ecoboost. I picked her up after an agonizing 8 weeks of waiting for her to be built in on June 30th. Had to put 1000 miles on it before towing but I finally got to tow my 2011 PIV yesterday. What a huge difference! I have been averaging just over 18mpg without towing and yesterday I averaged 13mpg all towing through the hills to get to the Delta here in Cal. The GMC averaged 14 no towing and about 12 with a mix of towing and no towing. The big difference was going through the hills. The F150 had so much more power than the 5.3L. To try to stay close to 60mph with the GMC motor had to drop to 2nd gear and run at 6K rpm, The Ford ran in 4th at less than 3K rpm. The Ford has a 6 speed tranny. Nice! I have a 13 model Ecoboost. Really like it and no issues yet.
Very nice truck. I like the new design of the 2015. My 2014 Eco has been great and tows very well.
Of course its apples to oranges comparing a 2001 to a 2016. The new GM products in the small V8 are now equally impressive we find. A new 2015 Tahoe we recently used did better empty and loaded towing than the EcoBoost engines we have. That being said all three major US builders have improved extremely on fuel mileage since ten years ago. The new EcoDiesel would be one to watch also. Be sure you use the Tow Haul feature on the transmission, it is impressive compared to other tow modes.

You can not really compare a 2016 Ford to a 2001 GM product? My Silverado has better braking than my buddies ecoboost ford. At least that is his opinion. I pulled my Pantera II through N. AR. in mid August and was very satisfied with power and Gas mileage. Most I know that have the Ford Eco Boost either love it or hate it. I hope you love it!Dan
I love the Ecoboost 3.5L. I didnt go with the GMC or Chevy for a couple reasons. No. 1 reason after taking my wifes HHR to our local dealer for a oil change they wrecked the damn car and had to keep it for a couple weeks to repair. Second time in the shop was for a water leak that took them forever to find and this issue was well documented on the internet but they refused to listen. After tearing the whole cars front end apart to see if it was actually leaking through the firewall they wrecked the car again and had to put it through the body shop again! It took like over a month to finally get the leak stopped. It was coming from a seam at the windshield lower seal. Done with Chevy service! Now I wanted something with a bit more power. The GM 5.3L V8 has 365hp 383ft/lbs. The 3.5 eco has 365hp and 420ft/lbs. To get better hp and torque in the Chevy Id have to go up to a 6.2L and that was way out of my price range. Here in the bay area we have to deal with the hills and some pretty steep ones at that and to get to any of our great fishing lakes and the delta we have to go over them. I opted for the more torque vehicle and glad I did. I like the design and features in the F150 over the 1500.Some people like Chevy or Dodge. After the crap I went through with my HHR and there “Its no big deal” im done with GM.Builder of fine Bass Fishing RodsReel Bearing and Drag upgrades.B2 Custom RodsBoca Bearings
Sounds to me like you have a dealer/service problem. My current Chevy dealer is as Good as any service I have ever experienced, Car, Truck, or Boat. Bar None!! I have found out in life you usually get what you pay for. Some vehicles/boats are cheap for a reason. An Old friend of mine once told me “If you want Good, Clean Oats you will pay a fair price! If you are Satisfied with Oats that have been through the Horse then there are bargains out there!” I think that goes for a lot of things, boats included.I Like my buddies EcoBoost, he doesnt, but then I dont have to drive it all the time. I probably will never own another Ford for 2 reasons. One: The Chevy dealer is the Best there is around here. Two: I had an experience similar to yours with a new Ford back in the 90s. I ended up driving it to Canada and limped it home. Got it fixed and then traded it off at less than a year old. I will never own another Dodge because I have owned two and they were the worst vehicles I ever had to drive. OMMV!Enjoy your Ford I am sure it will serve you well! Dan
I bought a F-150 3.5 Ecoboost last week as well to pull my PIV. I cant wait to get 1000 miles on it so I can start pulling the boat. This will be the first time I have bought a Ford since the late 70s. From the looks of the interior pictures of the cab you got one fully dressed. Nice looking ride you got there.

They told me to keep it over the weekend and to pull my boat all I wanted and let them know the following Monday what I thought about it. I have 28k miles on it now and at least 20k of those miles were towing. No issues yet. I have 3 vehicles, my wifes Tahoe (family ride), Dodge for my work truck, and the Eco for pulling the Cat. All have been great for their purpose.
From the looks of the interior pictures of the cab you got one fully dressedIts a XLT with the sport package. After getting it I wish I had gone with the Lariat with the sport and 502A package to get the voice operated dual zone environment. I really love the console mounted shifter. Putting this thing in sport mode and these trucks friggin fly. Nice having the ability to shift manually also. I did find the tow haul mode nice especially going down hill. Press the brake and it drops a gear and uses engine braking to keep your truck slowed down if its still increasing speed press the brake again and it drops another gear. Didnt have to touch the breaks much going down a long hill.Builder of fine Bass Fishing RodsReel Bearing and Drag upgrades.B2 Custom RodsBoca Bearings
