Well I have only got to fish 4 times this year and it has been one little frustrating thing after another, and I think I am getting worse at fishing instead of better! In other words I am in a Slump and Murphy has been hard after me. Yesterday was no exception! I got to take off on a quick trip at the last minute. Arrived at the lake and went through my prelaunch ritual and launched. I put on the boat fenders and tied up to the dock with my bungee cord. Then went to park the truck. When I got back to the dock Sue says did you put the plug in the boat? Yep! And I hit the bilge pump. I knew the plug did not tighten like it normally did, but my thoughts were it will be fine today and if it leaks a little bit I can pump it out. I soon realized I had more than a little leak and went to get the truck and pulled it out of the water to get a closer look at things. I then saw what I could not believe the plug was gone! Completely gone! Game over! I have 3 extra plugs and yes they were all at home in the garage! Dumb!! Well I was saved by another Crappie Fisherman at the ramp. He gave me one of his spares and saved my day because I was over an hour from home. Murphys Law!! Right?? Just thought it might be interesting to hear how Murphy has got some of you and to hear about some of the slumps you have been through and how you got out of it. Maybe it will cheer me up! You know misery Loves company! Dan
Weve all left the plug out on more then one occasion. I have two extras that are always in the same compartment so I exactly where it is when in a panic. Figure extra one for me and one for the guy who keeps his at home……
Well look to the bright side! The day was saved! Could been worse. I always try to turn a negative to a positive. Weve all done it. I know I have . the sad part is MORE THAN ONCE. You live and you learn. At least thats the way I look at it.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Dan we have all done that in the past. Usually it only happens “once” though. I carry two spare plugs with me in the boat. One is kept in a tool box as a spare for others who may need one. The other one is a plug that I can install from inside the boat in a hurry if I need to. It is the one with a flip up handle that locks it in position. You can install it by “feel” without seeing the hole if it is underwater too. That will probably never happen to you again.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
You all think you got it bad? Try having “Murphy” for your last name! LOL!Have a safe holiday!” Mike Murphy “

Now that is a great ideal!2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I have owned a Boats since I bought my first new one in 78. I think at one time or another I have done or forgot to do everything imaginable. I have definitely forgot to put the plug in before, but I had never put it in and lost it!! Ouch!!Dan
Ive never left the plug out. But thats because I never take it out!
Bill that is probably a good idea but I cant get over the thoughts that there is a little puddle of water in the bilge that just sits thereDan
Slumps?? How does everyone deal with a fishing slump? I know everyone is different and it would be interesting to hear some of the different methods. I was on fire for a couple of years and limits were fairly regular, but this year especially I have been lucky to hit 1/3 to 1/2 of a limit. I have tried slowing down, and spend more time studying the electronics, but that is against my nature. I have hunted for over 50 years and I have always been aggressive. Tell me how you have dealt with a slump!Dan
