Tempest vs. Predator

Hi Guys. Got a 2000 Sabre with a 150xr6. I was having a little problem with my prop- a Tempest Plus 3 blade 23 Pitch. Took it to prop shop and one blade is out a little. While there he had a Predator 4 blade 24 pitch really reasonable to me. Question is how does the two props compare? Boat ran good with the predator. Not concerned too much about the top speed–65 years old and use my speed chasing the old lady around the ironing board. Getting Tempest set and balanced at the prop shop. Happy with Predator but just curious about how they compare. Thanks in advance.

If not too concerned with top end speed then all you need to worry with is hole shot and making sure you dont exceed the rpm limit your engine is designed to run. Target rpms for your engine is likely somewhere between 5500 and 5800 rpms wide open trimmed out.

I never ran a Predator on my old Pantera, but I had one on my old 184 Champion which was a 23″ 3 blade that ran really well on that boat. When I traded that boat in I got a 361V and tried several props on it. A 24″ Predator 4 blade was the best all around prop on that rig that I found. I sure hated to see them go out of business, and wouldnt mind getting my hands on a good 24″ 4 blade for my Sabre if I could find one in good shape.

Carried it to the Tennessee River and ran the predator and had real good hole shot. Wind was so strong that about 55 was as fast as I ran it. RPMS seem to be fine at that speed. Will have to get a calm day so I can hammer it a little.

Fastest prop on my boat was a predator, that being said theres a reason theyre no longer in business.. Welded ears not cast, theyre notorious for throwing blades. Second problem with them is the hub housing, its very thin and is prone to cracking, I just had my three blade predator in the shop for a new hub and the housing cracked when they were pressing out the old hub. I personally wont own another, not worth all of the unknown variables associated with a 20 yr old prop. If youre looking for a four blade prop try out a Trophy plus way stronger than any predator and you should see similar performance with it just my .02 cents

I run a trophy plus on my old 17 ft caracal. I loved it . Though on a 150 xr4 with a big hub foot. She would fly was gna try one on my 200 proxs. But the members say through fury is the best all around. I figure on this board about all names have been tried. Thanks guys for the information. Picked the predator up for 100 bucks and runs good. Will be a good spare when he gets my Tempest Plus trued and balanced. Thanks again
