I did the same thing on my 08 P2 last month. I had the switch/cable assembly and control valve replaced. Its smooth now. It was always tough to get it past the detent.

the cable is probably bent on the end where it connectsto the valve

Hard to say what caused the cable to jam. Sometimes it is mechanical and they jam on the assembly, sometimes its in the valve itself and the rear portion. Seldom is it a bit cable unless you bend it because of other issues.

Can I get to the cable end at the valve via the rear storage area? If the cable isnt bent, is there a was to lubricate it?Hey creekchub – did you replace your cable and if so how difficult was it?Thanks Guys – I love this forum!

It is a simp,e choke cable configuration with a different lever operating it. You can slip the lever portion out to check that and then access the rear valve end through the rear hatch sump area.

Tip – always carry a 5/8″ plug w/ you so when your livewell valve fails (yes I said when not if) you can plug the drain hole. Simply ensure the lever is full open, remove the bottom screen in the very bottom of your well, and insert the plug. The plug is the same one that fits the drain the in the coolers.

Hey Folks – need a little advice. Fished today, open the Livewell control on my 08 Cougar FTD to let water in like always. End of day, went to let the water out and the control lever/cable was stuck! Like usual, if a little pressure dosent work, force it! Needless to say I broke the lever off. Shouldnt be a problem getting a new lever but Im wondering now about why it was stuck and will this happen again when I get the new lever installed? Anyone who has experienced this and if so what should I do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Fill is the full position and empty should drain. The clamp on the cable can slip and lets the cable move, the valve does not function then. There is a little detent right as the cable pops into position.

my control only has a open & closed. not full and empty. I want to back boat in with out filling with water. I thought if i put it in closed the valve would prevent water from entering.Last edited by Markw8859 on August 30th, 2015, 10:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.2014 Puma FTD 250 XS

Hmm, We are not sure on the labeling, though Open should allow water to pass in our view. Thats something we have not been aware of.

They were labeled auto and empty, and the new one I just put in is also labeled the same way. In the empty position it will drain the livewell without letting any water in, in auto it will let water come in from the drain but will not let water out.

My 14 Puma FTD also has empty and auto and works just as 1stinLA said
