Hey Gang,Having some trouble with my troller have a quick question about the breakers on the battery wires. Are they tripped when the button is pushed out? Thanks,Mike
That should be correct. You push them back in to reset them.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
If resetting them doesnt fix the problem, Id get a new breaker. Those things can corrode pretty easily. I carry spare breakers with me all the time. I think I probably have 2 of each size my Cougar takes. That being said, since I got this boat new in 09, Ive not had to replace one.
Do the breakers get weaker the more they trip?i have a 2013 P2 with a Motorguide TM (24v system) and when I first got the boat they tripped whenever I put it on high. It only ran for a short time before it cut out, but worked when lowered the speed setting.i was told that it could be corrosion on the battery and breaker connection, so I cleaned everyone of them and havent had any problems till the other day when I had it on high again.A little later while only on 3-4 setting the TM would only studder, like wasnt getting enough voltage. I checked the breakers and had the one on the positive lead snap to reset.it happen again a few minutes later, but not again for the rest of the day.Should I replace both or just the positive lead?thanks,
Once it trips, its more likely to trip again. Had it happen to me this spring, running on high in the weeds and tripped it. Of course I didnt see the little black button until Id spent 20 min tearing things apart to see what was wrong…lol.2011 Sabre FTD w/ Mercury 150 Pro XS, Power Pole Sportsman 2s, Humminbird 898 w/ 360 and 858 at bow, 898 at ConsoleFor lots of BCB love, follow me on instagram: @professorbeard

The more current that goes through them, the more they will actually “bend”. If they bend enough, they will break the contact and your troller will not have power. Then as they cool down the metal straightens enough to again make contact and you can use your troller again. This constant heating and cooling does actually weaken the metal and it is best to replace them. You will find that they will trip at lower and lower speeds if not replaced. Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Very good explaination. At first I thought one of my batteries had gone bad or one of the cable connections had come loose. It makes sense to keep extras in the boat, so that small item doesnt ruin a fishing day.

I have a 2013 also and it was doing this very thing. The breakers werent tripping but the troller would cut in and out. Had me scratching my head. I changed the breakers and problem solved.
Corrosion
The first time I had the TM cut out, I cleaned every connection with a wire brush and coated them with di-electric grease. This fixed it temporarily but according to the response from JEH in LA, they had already been weakened from previously being tripped.Corrosion may have initially started the problem.
