Not my first rodeo with bass boats but I have never had the problems loading a boat as I have every time with the new caracal. Ive watched the videos read the “how tos” and still have to load the boat on the trailer. Pull lout to get the bow over the front roller. Back up to pull the boat up to the roller. This is a major pain in the butt. At first I thought it was just me not knowing where to have the trailer in the water but after 3 months and many trips with the trailer in deep in shallow and everywhere in between I am still having the same problem. Id appreciate any tips suggestions or is this what I have to live with. Thanks
I have had some issues loading my Caracal as well. Ive had bassboats since the 70s, so I have some experience. I think I have found the solution, but I always wonder each time I get ready to leave the lake. On my CougarFTDs that Ive had, I back the trailer in so the outside bunks are just barely out of the water, no matter how steep or shallow the ramp was. It worked every time. With the Caracal, I back it in so that about 3″ of the outside bunks are out of the water. I drive it on and let it settle, then straighten it up with some power to the engine, then drive it up to the roller. That technique has seemed to work fine the last 4-5 times Ive had the boat out.
I always keep a couple inches of the short bunks showing. Then load it on far as itll go then back in a little further to finish off the loading. My wife always loads it onto the trailer. This method has proven 100% effective for us on all the different Ramps we use. Last edited by GRR884 on July 25th, 2016, 4:35 pm, edited 1 time in total.
i read on here to have the short bunk just barely out of the water. Once I started doing that, it loads perfectly each and every time (Eyra). Before that, I was having some similar issue. I guess with the trailers being custom for each model, there is little leeway.
I have a 2015 Caracal.I struggled quite a bit at first, and have a beat-up plastic end on my Foretrex to prove it.Outside bunks 2-3″ out of the water and the Caracal will load every time. Any drier and wont push up to roller and any wetter the trolling motor will hit the urethane roller. (same for unloading, dont let it float off or you will beat up your trolling motor.)It is definately easier after you get it right a couple times.Billius has it figured out it seems, too.DAVE.
So on mine, I have found that trailer depth slightly varies and this hull is more sensitive to the ramp pitch than it was for my 12 PII. Definitely better to be too shallow than too deep, but I have found when powering on, if you get out of the throttle too soon and lose “momentum”, you will never make it the last 3-6 inches to the roller. In these instances I do like GRR describes above. Some ramps I have no problem and with little throttle whatsoever get the eye to the roller, others seem to be more challenging.
I have also found that mine likes to be a bit shallower than my P4 did for optimum loading. The steeper the ramp the more critical the load position too I have found.
I have 2015 Caracal and I also had issues loading it on the trailer. I found that if you go too deep the eye goes up over the roller, and if you arent deep enough you are 3-6 inches short. There is definitely a sweet spot you have to find on this boat to get it to load the first time without having to adjust the truck. Wont stop me from loving this boat though, just need to take it out more often to get used to the sweet spot.2015 BassCat Caracal225 Yamaha SHORaymarine Axiom 12sTwin 8 Red PowerPole Blades
It also helps to have the entire bunk wet before loading
Im going to change to Carpet bunks to see if it helps any.
