Considering a move from Missouri to the Fairhope, Daphne, Spanish Fort area. Looking for any information regarding fishing the Mobile Delta. Off and on spent ten years at Fort Rucker fishing Eufaula, Jordan, Lay, etc. but have no idea what the delta is like; dont want to wake up one day and wonder why I thought leaving Table Rock was a good idea. So, any information regarding fishing and the area in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Chip ReavesU.S. Army Retired (Aviation)Cougar FTD/250 ProXSShell Knob, MO/Cape Coral,FL
I know nothing about table rock, but you would prolly find yourself trailoring north after awhile. North Alabama would be my preferred location.
You couldnt find a more beautiful area than those you have mentioned, especially Fairhope and Daphne. The Mobile Delta can be feast or famine like any other place. Its all part of the Alabama river, the Tombigbee river, and the Tensaw river. Many lakes off of these.Probably north of the causeway is the best…I do believe it is Tidal water also..You are only 30-45 minutes to the gulf beaches.I would love to live in that area..Good luck
The area is really beautiful. Fishing the delta reminds you of the tv show Swamp People. I lived down there for 4 years. I have never in my life experienced fishing that was as poor as it is in the Mobile/Tennsaw Delta. Bass fishing that is. You can catch a load of speckled trout, flounder and some redfish too. I lived 15 miles north of Gulf Shores, in Summerdale, Alabama. Some folks will catch some bass in the delta, but many, in tournaments, run way up into the Alabama river, some as far as 50 miles+ to catch fish. On the other hand I have known of guys who have caught bass right near the causeway at the northern end of Mobile Bay too. It is tidal water although the change is normally around 1-2. If it was me, Id definitely not move there. I agree with stickwurm, if I was to do it again, Id move into northern Alabama, someplace SE of Birmingham.
I enjoyed fishing the Mobile Delta when I lived there. At that time it was full of grass and also full of bass. It definitely took a down turn and fishing was tough following a few major storms. I think it was the years Billius lived there. Ive heard it has gotten better and is on an up swing since then. The areas you mentioned are beautiful. If you are picking a location based solely on bass fishing then northern Alabama would be a better choice. But I think the gulf has more to offer if you are looking for overall quality of life.
I love the fairhope area. We try to sneak down there once or twice a year for a weekend. As far as fishing, beats me. I only fish here in central & sometimes north Alabama. Posted via TapaTalk for iPhone613 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
The bass fishing is hard here on the delta. The water is tidal and you will find that the best it gets is stained water and a 6lb. bass is a large fish for this area. Most of the tournaments are won with around 14 lb. bag but the up side is we get to fish all year. You can travel just to the other side of the dam whether Coffeeville, Claiburn, or Millers Ferry and there you can get into clearer water and much larger fish. From Fairhope area you are looking at about an hour drive so its not to bad. Plus the Fairhope area is a nice area to live in. Hope this helps.
I live in Pensacola, Fl. and have fished the Mobile Delta for years. Lots of small fish in what is known as “the causeway area, in the brackish water. Numbers decrease and size of fish increase somewhat further north in the Lakes off the main rivers and the rivers themselves. I also fish the Coosa River chain, Eufaula, Lake Martin Seminole, Millers Ferry etc. all within a 4 hour drive. I find the fishing much better there than on the delta. Fairhope/Daphne area is a great place to live. In addition to beach access there is good salt water fishing in the bay for speckled trout and red fish.It depends a lot on your priorities. If good bass fishing is your sole goal then you should probably stay put, but if you want to relocate Id go to central/North Alabama close to some of the best large mouth and spotted bass fishing in the country.
Ive lived here all my life and fished here all my life. If big quality bass is what your after this aint the place. Most tourneys are won with 12-14 lbs and Ive seen some with 8lbs winning sacks in the summer in a 60-80 boat tourney. Quality of living is great. Pretty country and great schools along with friendly folks. Its a growing area but still has the small town additude. If you have any questions contact me and Ill be glad to help.
It is a great place. I live in N. Alabama but have traveled there to fish in Alabama BASS Nation events and have found fish every time. I think you will like fishing in the area. Of course coming north the Coosa river is super and up where I live there is the famed Tennessee River with all the great lakes. Enjoy.
