1995 Bass Cat Pantera II with stringer rot :(

Hey guys I started investigating an issue with my boat back in May and discovered the floor was rotten. As I tore the floor up I discovered that the stringers were rotten also. I called around and its going to cost 5000-6000 to repair. That to me is way to much to invest. I have a 150 black max EFI that runs great and I have never had an issue. I am sure the boat would still function but I know that it would need to be repaired asap so that stress and fractures would not occur in the fiberglass. My question is would I be better off selling the motor or just scabbing the parts I have cut out and try to use it. If I could get a couple of thousand out of the motor I suppose I would just sell it and save up for another boat a few years down the road. Thanks for your future input! Josh

Have you asked the guy at BCB what he would charge to fix it?

Josh, There is no good answer here buddy, sorry. You do what you gotta do to stay fishing, but without any history of how the boat was stored(inside or out), and maintained its hard to tell you if it is worth fixing or not. Sounds like youve already decided. My best advice is dont throw good money after bad. Invest in an all glass hull, and put your money there instead of a continuing project. Ive always stored my boats inside, and never had any degradation. All the wood in a BCB hull was encapsulated in glass, so it had to be soaked, or busted to get where it is now. For now I think I would punt. Sorry, but thats where you are.

I wanted to post some pics and show that this cat is ready to go again! I had a good buddy help with the repairs. We cut out the bad rotten section of the strings back to solid wood and reinforced with composite stringers. We then fiberglassed it and encased it all including the floor. I will show the before and after. BeforeAfterNow to re-carpet and ready to go!

Looks like you definitely did a good job on the floor and I would guess you did equally as good on the stringers. Now to re-carpet and ready to go!Good looking job man. I know this was no easy task, time consuming for sure. Before installing carpet I would carefully drill pop rivets on the metal trim and tuck the edges of carpet underneath and then re-install. Recommend using BCB carpet its good stuff. Itll look great. Glad you were able to save your ride & keep the extra cash in your pocket.
