I have been receiving conflicting stories. Does a Merc 115 Optimax XS DFI use 2 stroke or 2 cycle Oil?Thanks

Only oil I would run in a Pro XS is Mercury Opti DFI oil.

The terms “two stroke” and “two cycle” are used interchangeably. As Mainliner suggests, the Merc opti oil is a very good choice.

Geesh this subject can get deep. I know wat my hand book says. It says this. MERCURY OR QUICK SILVER DFI IS RECOMMENDED .IF DFI IS NOT AVAILABLE WE RECCOMEND TCW3 MERCURY PREMIUM PLUS. SO WAT DOES THIS TELL ME . EITHER ONE IS OK. WAT IS THE DIFFERENCE . NATURALLY THEY WANT YOU TO BURN THE DFI. IT BURNS CLEANER FOR EMISIONS. ALOT OF THIS RECOMMENDATION ARE EPA STUFF. DOES PREMIUM PLUS SHORTEN THE LIFE SPAN OF A MOTOR ? I WOULDNT THINK SO. HEY IVE RUN BOTH. IVE SEEN PEOPLE THAT RUN NOTHING BUT ONE OR THE OTHER AND BOTH HAVE GREAT SUCESS. SO IMO I THINK BOTH ARE GREAT LUBRICATES. And if it was going to cause engine failure. It would say WE RECOMMEND DFI ONLY.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

Wish I still had the pics of the inside of my 99 200 Opti that I only ran TCW3 oil in and not DFI because it was cheaper. That engine was the reason DFI oil is the only thing that goes through the 06 model I have now. With just over 200 hours there was so much carbon build up in the motor including on the piston ring grooves that I was surprised it lasted that long. Considering the price of the DFI and how much the engine uses, it is just cheap insurance.
