Hello guys. Long time reader, first time poster. My name is Byron and I just picked my my first Bass Cat 2 days ago. Sabre vision with merc pro XS 150. Im located in Hot Springs, AR and usually fish DeGray or Ouachita. Im sure Ill have questions and would be glad to share any of the limited information I have or learn over my time here. I bought my boat new from R&R Marine in Pittsburgh, TX. Ive had it out the last 2 days going through the break-in and learning the boat. For what its worth, R&R was great to deal with. Steven was great and was extremely patient dealing with my questions and concerns and also with my credit union and insurance companies. I would advise anyone to check them out. Truly great customer service and I never once felt out of place there. No pressure, very accommodating. Id give them a 5 star rating. This is my 4th boat. I have had a nitro 700, javelin renegade 19, and ranger 185 previously. I have to say the bass cat rides great, probably better than the others to be honest. I like the way it sits up a little higher vs other brands. I will also say that its going to take me a bit to get used to the trolling motor controls pushed so far forward but I think I will like it when I get used to it. It makes the boat seem so much bigger than it is when fishing. Just a little background on me and just saying hello to everyone. I hope to be able to participate in the invitational tournaments and meet some of you guys there. Welcome. Its a great place to hang out and learn some things.
I have read a lot in the last year or so while making my decision on which boat to purchase. Seems like a great group of guys and one thing I have really liked is that the company seems to be behind their product 100%. That is what made my decision for me to be honest. The company seems great, small enough to “care”, if you will, about each customer but large enough theyre not left behind by larger manufacturers who have higher budgets in the R&D field.I dont mean that in a bad way by any means, its the whole reason I chose BCB.For example, Ive seen numerous posts where customers were having problems and received calls from Rick himself. Thats not something Ive seen in other manufacturers I was considering.Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)

Welcome! I too was unsure about the placement of the trolling motor pedal being so far forward. Now I wouldnt have it any other way. I love being at the very front of the boat, I can easily fish two people on my front deck and for pitching baits its the best. I was fishing on the front of a friends Cobra, pitched my jig and smack! I hit the boat worst backlash of the season…. I felt like I couldnt get positioned on his boat comfortably it was weird.
Its not too cold right now,but from personal experience with that forward position, you can go right over the front if you lose your balance. Luckily I had enough clothes in the boat to put some dry stuff on and keep fishing. Ounce up there with a buttseat, theres not really an extra step if you lose your balance. Im sure I wasnt the first and wont be the last. Fortunately, you adapt quick and the forward position certainly has advantages.
Congrats on the new ride. I was just up in Hot Springs area from Sunday to Thursday. What a beautiful place. Now, as far as the fed trolling position, I have been fishing my Cougar since 2002 and not once came close to taking the Nestea plunge. Knock on wood…lol
One of the pros of another brand said it well when he said while fishing from the bow of a Puma FTD… “I like this, Ive fished up here two hours and I aint pulling the dress down on my cricket.”
