I have a 2000 Cougar and after noticing a gas smell I tracked it down to what appears to be a leak on the motor side of the primer bulb. I removed the nylon clamp and it doesnt appear to be torn or cracked so I replaced it with a stainless steel clamp and snugged it down. I went back to the lake friday evening and notice the smell again and when I got to the boat storage I checked and sure enough it is leaking in the same spot. This time I snugged it down till I felt it get solid, I didnt want to over do it last time and crack the plastic fitting coming out of the bulb. Anyway, if this doesnt fix it I will buy a new bulb and a couple new clamps and see if that will do it. Naturally I am doing all of this by feel because of it being down in the bilge area. My question is, if i remove the primer bulb is the hose coming out of the gas tank going to have a tendency to want to syphon after i remove the bulb? I am just thinking ahead to hopefully make as little of a mess as possible.I hope snugging it down this time fixes the problem.
