Alarm on Mercury

Ive got an 05 200 Mercury EFI and when I get I running wide open full trim for a while an alarm goes off its a solid beep and it slows my motor down to idle then goes off thought it was my water pump just bought the boat and didnt know when it had been changed so I changed that and it still happens any ideas?

Over rev. maybe? Do you get a couple of short beeps before the continuous? What kind of rpm is it at when it happens? could be temp as well if the motor is too high and when fully trimmed out you could be loosing water pressure.

Check your oil reservoir. The one on the motor and make sure it is full. On a few occasions my 96 200efi would set off the alarm while running on plane. If that bottle is not full the alarm will go off. Make sure that is full. If it is not all the way full, fill it up and see if that solves the problem

could be a number of things and some are listed above. could be a faulty sensor too which you will have a hard time determining. I recommend going to a certified merc mechanic and allow them to put it on the computer. It will show you exactly what codes are being thrown within a couple of minutes. good luck!

Its usually 5600 rpm trimmed out if that sounds right its just one long beep no short ones had a guy tell me he had to change his oil resivouir on his 200 opti because of an alarm but he said it had some short beeps after the long beep

Well Im envious of you even having a alarm. I drove 6 hours away to purchase a boat that had been sitting in a storage facility since 1999-2000, and brought it home and took it to who I was told by many was the Best in my area… But was also expensive. I told him to go thru the motor and lower unit and do what needs to be done to get it ready to be used again. (Big Mistake – Never leave a open check to a Marine mechanic) Long long story short: when I picked it up, he give me a box of parts and hoses that he had changed out…. One being a small box that was said to be 400.00 and I didnt really need.??? Said it operated the alarms which I didnt need. He said all I needed was a Temperature and water pressure gauge and keep a eye on them. Ive learned a lot since that guy cleaned my ignorant clock, but I will say… The motor has never missed a beat, and it will run with the best of them so far.

Just adding this to what Phil said: (The one thing that stands out to me is you said at full trim, most Cats do not like to be trimmed out very much and you probably do not have much if any water pressure.)

Had same issue with an my 05 3.0 EFI, it was a faulty oil sensor – if I remember right it might have been in the reservoir. Anyway, take to a mechanic, have them plug it into a computer and that should answer the question for you.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
