Trolling motor question.

Question on a 2000 P3. Currently has a 36 volt fortrex installed. But Im a little concerned on the gauge wire used on the install. Was the factory gauge wire sufficient to run a 36 volt? Or should I go ahead and run new thicker gauge? Also what prop would be best? Currently has a 25 ballistic prop on her. But she was re powered with in 2011 with a 200 pro xs. I havent run the boat yet but Im assuming either a 24 fury or 25 trophy?

The TM should have three wires if its a 36 volt setup what gauge wires are they? The factory leads were for a 24 volt to make it 36 another power wire must have been run by someone if its the same gauge of wire you should be good. Im guessing its 8 or 10 gauge? Does any of the wires get hot when you have been running the TM? I wouldnt get to worried about the prop until you run it, the prop you have might work great?! You wont know until you try it. A Trophy is a great bass boat prop good lift good hole shot and decent top end but you might not need it… Run what you have if you have good hole shot and good top end as well as the engine running in the recommended rpm range at WOT I wouldnt mess with it. If it lacks in any of those then I would be prop shopping. Do you have any local prop shops that will let you demo props?

There should be no issue with the factory wiring. BC does a great job using the best materials and their extra fine strand wire, at what ever gauge, is going to outperform anything else you buy, even if its a heavier gauge. If you can find an exposed place, just look at the number of strands in the wire and compare it to anything else.

Some people ordered them for 36 volt, like I did at that time.

6 gauge wire was a standard use by most well before yr. 2000. You should be good.

My 99 P-111 was always 36 volt and has 6 gauge wires.

As far as prop goes a 25 Fury would be a good starting point.

Does any of the wires get hot when you have been running the TM? You only need two wires to get 36V to the trollingmotor. If it were 12/24 or 24/36, then it needs three wires. Basscat has used 6ga wires for years ( I know since 1990) and is plenty good for the 36V trolling motor. You will need to make sure the jumpers in the back are also 6ga.
