Voltage drop to console

Recently had two new depth finders installed on my 04 PII . Units kept turning off during a day of fishing. Returned to install dealer and they determined that I had low voltage and that what was causing my units to shut down. They convinced me I had a bad battery (I use the starting battery). I replaced the battery with a new $200 1000CCA and still having the same problem. I show a 2 volt drop from the battery to the console unit and almost 3 volt to the trolling motor unit. Any suggestions? Both units are getting power through the switched “Main” at the console.

By-pass the main switch. Run wires directly from the head units to the battery, and make sure you fuse them.

They should be direct wired with a switch/cutoff close to the battery. Tapping into the current wiring will cause the voltage drop, since that wiring is carrying the “other” appliances also.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

We would replace the circuit breaker as that is usually the culprit.

No circuit breakers on my boat but will direct wire as suggested.

i am having the same problem with my 02 cougar,they are wired into the aux switch on the control panel but i dont know if i have a circuit breaker on mine or not

I am having the same problem with my 09 Sabre FTD. I replaced my cranking battery to help as well. What is the best size wire? Should I do both units or just run wire for the front only thus taking some of the load off the main line for the console unit? What about running to the trolling battery?

Wire each unit to the cranking battery directly and use 12 gauge wire with a blade type fuse.
