yes I think you will have to tee in another power wire. But you should not need the external gps mod any more. your hds7 should have one internally the only reason to use an external is if its a 4000 instead of a 3000. The 4000 updates 5x per sec the 3000 only 1x per sec.
I mounted the structure scan unit on my PIV using Scap and Shirleys Transducer shield/saver, it mounts on the lower right corner of the jackplate, do a search over on BBC and you can see lots of reviews on it, I like it 100% better than the stock mount. Lowrance recommends you wire the unit directly to the battery then wire the yellow wire to a switch or to the power wire for your HDS. I wired mine to the HDS, this turns the Structure Scan unit on whenever the HDS turns on. Mike
There will be very few here that can assist you with this. It sounds to us like you have an Ethernet cabling issue or power to the LSS 1 unit. Bass Boat Central has a more involved electronics board that may better serve you this weekend. BCB
I have a 2011 puma FTD, do you know where they would have mounted the fuse for the Structure scan unit at the factory? I have looked and I cant locate the fuse for it, as I was told that the unit doesnt have power going to it.
BCB does not use fuses in line on units. More connections and more potential issues.
If you have any green lights showing on the LSS, you should check all the yellow connectors on the unit as well as the connections on the back of the hds units. No green lights means you may have power issues. Should be able to trace the power wires from the LSS to the 12v power. Bet its a connection issueHave had that one a couple of times.
Mine also has a 5a fuse where I have it attached to power. I put that under the dash, but I couldnt tell you where yours is.- Chaz
Thanks, for all of the help and suggestions, I worked on it all afternoon, still no luck. I am going to call Lowrance, if I get back home this week and see if I can get some help from them, if not I will just use the sonar part this next weekend. Thanks again,
While fishing my strucute scan went out on HD-7 unit, will only show “no source”, everthing else is working on unit including sonar. Has anyone had this problem
You can mount your Structure Scan module in the starboard side rod locker in front of the console. Mount it against the back wall facing the console. Your structure scan transducer (LSS-2) should mount on the transom or jack plate. Make sure there are no obstructions to either side or straight down. You can put a 2D sonar transducer thru-hull in the bilge area so you can get a 2D reading at higher speeds. Andy GreeneAndy Greene Greene Boat & Motor 828-286-2290 http://www.greeneboats.com
Andy do I need a special bracket to mount it to the jack plate. I have the original jack plate that came with the boat. Where would you recommend buying it from?
IMO the best way to go is to use a Transducer Shield & Saver bracket on the transom to mount the LSS-2 transducer.Dan
Ok , Just went and ordered the L-bracket,extension plate and shield for the LSS2 from Transducer Shield.. How difficult is this going to be drilling and installing on my jack plate? Who has done this and what do I need to watch out for. I watched there video on their web site. I have all the tools Drill, good bits for aluminum and know to measure twice then drill so what else do I need? Thanks
I did it, so its not too difficult. I assume you are talking about a Slidemaster manual jackplate. I had to borrow a tap and die set from my dad but it was all pretty simple and straight forward.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Ok sounds easy enough, Yes I have a slide master, Why did you thread the plate? Im assuming it just bolts on? Just wondering.Last edited by cougarftdjohn on February 5th, 2015, 9:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.
