New to this board, Im sure this has been discussed before but here goes:I have a 2013 P2 with a 200 Merc Pro XS with Atlas plate, 26 fury. Cant quite get the hang of driving it at high speeds. It obviously doesnt like a lot of trim I get that, and most of the time I run the Atlas at 5 or so on the gauge. Does that sound about right? It wants to chine walk over 63ish or so and not just a little usually. Do I just need to get used to the bumping the tourque at the wheel or is there a sweet spot I need find? I have had it up to 74+ on gps but it was starting to bobble. Scary.BTW, love the boat, my first cat! Thanks for any help!Jeff
I havent owned a P2 but the 74 sounds outstanding for that boat. I would say to just get use to correcting it at the wheel. Sounds to me like you have it dialed in.
I have gotten my 12 PII to 73 and change, once under perfect conditions and wide open space. When running WOT I can drive it to 69 ish with little to no chine. Then it gets interesting. I have a Detwiler but just dont use the boat enough and have not invested the time to play around with my setup. Thinking about trying to turn a 26 Fury next season though.
The #5 is a superfluous number on your JP gauge to everyone here. The best thing to do is set it at 5 and measure the distance from the prop shaft to the pad. Once that distance is determined more help can be given. 74 mph is an outstanding # for a PII though! It will constitute a deliberate left hand pops of the steering wheel to keep the boat on the pad and running level. It is the torque of the prop that causes it to fall off the pad to the right. Thanks for the information. I am very pleased with the top end capabilites. I just need to spend more time learning to relax and drive it on the top end. I did some measuring and I am running the prop shaft about 2.25 – 2.75 imches below the pad. That should be really close. Thanks again,Jeff
Ive got a PII with 200 HPDI and stock prop. 74-75 on GPS was my top end as well with just me in boat, little tackle, little fuel, and before I swapped out for minn kota TM and added two power poles. Sucker is a jet sled when you lighten up and does feel a little out of control with no weight. Now I get 68-70ish with passenger and loaded down with full tank of fuel and gear at 5,800 RPM. Although you loose some top end, chine walk goes away once loaded and handles much better IMO. Boat rides and performs better with more motor in water than other boats Ive run so dont trim up too much. Sweet spot for me is when motor just starts to kick higher rooster tail. Still passing 250s with my 200 all day long!
Curious what youre taching at 74 with 26″ prop? Thanks, Chris
Wackyrig,While not running with a hydraulic plate, the boat seems to perform best with prop 3 3/4 inches below the pad. The one comment made that catches my attention is the chine walk at 63ish. My experience reflects with correct engine trim and height on the jack plate, the chine walk is minimal until the last 2-4 mph of WOT. 26 Fury consistently sees 73-74 with 2 people. Heavily loaded its 71-72. We have lost a little top end after adding the Sears PM1 and going to larger TM batteries last summer.
You folks sure got some amazing P-IIs.
