I bought a used jag and Im attempting to replace a few parts. Bought replacement Velcro straps from Bass Cat and replace the 2 deck straps but the strap for the rear is a little more challenging. It would appear you have to remove the lid on the compartment to replace that strap and I can not figure out how to remove without damaging the piano hinge. Am I missing something here? Has anyone replaced these and can you offer insights?

We believe the rear strap for a Jaguar then was a shorter strap. The Parts staff probably either did not know that or made an error. The straps are mounted after the lid is installed unless someone else has worked on it after production, which on a 98 is entirely possible 16 model years later.

Thank you for the insight. Took a closer look at it and is screwed down on the outer edges of both sides. Not a problem for the outer edge but the inner edge is impossible to get to without unhinging the lid. It is not only possible but likely a previous owner replaced it…although I dont know how.I will give parts a call to see if a shorter strap is available. If so, that solves the problem…Ill just cut the old one off.Thank you for your quick reply!

I replaced mine but I cant remember how I did it(I dont have the boat anymore)……..I do remember that I used the standard length strap and I also remember I didnt take the lid off…..It was the original one that was on it that I replaced….I know….”Thanks for the nothing..”….LOL…

My 00 Jag was the same as you describe, on the edge of both side. You will have to remove the lid to replace. Or just leave it as is (which is what I ended up doing since removing that lid is a pain).
