http://basscatowners.yuku.com/reply/197 … eply-19780I just read through this old thread and I still have a question. The tongue swings on a bolt that has a lock nut on the bottom of it. If you loosen this nut could this bolt be removed? It seems like it should and if I I tap on it from below should it eventually loosen up? I have tried lubricating the hinge but am not having much success loosening it up. I thought if I could move this bolt up and down I could eventually work some lubrication into the hinge so it would move. I can move the tongue about 15 degrees from its closed position but thats about it. Could anybody offer some advice on how to get my swing tongue to swing? 1st thing make sure you have plenty of slack in your winch strap or its not going anywhere. Other than that Ive never had an issue, but I use mine every trip
Thanks for mentioning that. I forgot to add some information. Trailer is 2006 model and I never use the swing away function. A long while back I did swing it all the way but even back then it was very tight. Now it is “extremely tight” and will swing only about 15 degrees. When I hammer up on the bolt it is very solid feel and I was wondering if the bolt could be moved a little to help loosen it up and aid in getting some lubrication into the hinge.Everyone should believe in something. If the pivot is free at all some penetrating oil should have it loosened as you work it back and forth. Just work it a few times, lubricate it, let it sit a few hours or more and work it again. Eventually it should loosen as it sounds like you got it in time.

I was just looking at the website for “PB Blaster” penetrating oil. I think I need to purchase that product and give it a try.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Mine was stiff when I bought it. I Occasionally spray it down with a white lithium lube & it has helped tremendously.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Thanks for the replies. I purchased some PB Blaster and am soaking the joints down right now. I expect to keep this up for a while and will keep working it back and forth until I get it loose. Nobody responded to my question about the hinge bolt though………Should I be able to tap it from below until it moves upward??? If it was loose enough, would it move?Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
I dont see why not. I wouldnt hit it too hard though, you dont want to booger up the threads. Maybe whack it good w/ a rubber mallet.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
If you really want to do the right thing then get a new bolt and nut to replace that one that is obviously corroded. When the holes are exposed you can clean them and apply new anti corrosion coating to reduce any new corrosion issues. Hope it all works out for you.Practice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
Take it easy on the bolt. It is obviously frozen in there. My 2007 did not get opened for the first 4 years and when I tried it was a problem. I tried everything suggested here and it still would not move. Eventually tried to hard and snapped the bolt. Then I had to drill it out which was a bear, then got a new bolt and put it in. No problems since.
